Life changing experience! - This is an all day trip. Be prepared and bring a raincoat and good hiking shoes. It rains ALOT in Hilo and the hike around the crater rim and in the lava tubes are slippery when wet. Our tour guide from Aloha Sunshine Tours was Jim Carey and he was amazing! Such an awesome guide and story teller. We stopped along the way to and from the volcano. He made sure to point out every point of interest, various plants/trees and local businesses. We stopped at a coffee farm, a local bakery to pick up a picnic lunch, Rainbow Falls and the Big Island Candies company in Hilo. We got delicious samples of candy that are available for purchase. The volcano experience is amazing! It’s about a mile hike slightly uphill to the Volcano House. There is a restaurant and gift shop there as well as great views of the volcano. We got a steam ‘facial’ from leaning over one of the cracks in the earth where the heat from the lava pours out. The lava tubes are so cool - definitely need a flashlight! It’s also very wet and the ceiling is low - be sure to duck! It’s such a unique experience in Hawaii and I would definitely recommend it. It’s a life changing experience for sure!

Our driver and tour... - Our driver and tour director Mel was great. He had many stories of the Islands and their history. The tour lasted almost 10 hours and our van was comfortable for the ride. The stops along the way included a coffee farm, bakery for lunch, black sand beach and then Valcano National Park. A great experience.

This was truly a... - This was truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Our guide, Mel, was amazing—kind, funny, and incredibly knowledgeable. He shared far more information than I ever expected, which made the tour even more engaging. The volcanoes themselves were absolutely incredible to see. I only wish we had more time to stay in the area, as we were told a volcanic eruption might occur within the next few days. Regardless, I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting. Be prepared for a full day, but it’s absolutely worth it for such an unforgettable experience.

The Big Island in a day. - This was easily one of the best tours I’ve had. The tour took all day but it is called the big island for a reason. We stopped at a coffee plantation, a bakery, a black sand beach, a lava tube, and, of course, the volcano. Henry, our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a running commentary on Hawai background and customs. High recommend!
