Experience the current volcanic eruption from the pinnacle of Kilauea volcano, acquire knowledge of earlier geologic incidents and their impact on this constantly morphing region. Feel the warmth of steam vents and stroll through an old lava tube embedded in the chilly haze of the Hawaiian rainforest. Wrap up the day by delighting your senses in Hilo town, featuring the stunning Rainbow Falls, Liliuokalani Gardens, and delectable locally brewed chocolates and coffee, all part of this intimate group excursion.
- Operates in all weather conditions (be prepared for sun, wind and rain).
- Covered walking shoes are required and a jacket is highly recommended.
- Participants must be able to walk a minimum of 1.5 miles on uneven terrain.
- We do not guarantee you will see molten lava on this tour.
- HOTEL pick-up is offered for select HILO HOTELS ONLY. If you are staying outside of Hilo, please plan to meet at the Hilo Mo’oheau Bus Terminal (please confirm at time of booking).
- CRUISE SHIP passengers, we pick-up directly at the PORT OF HILO and will adjust the tour time as needed to accommodate your ships time in port.
- For a one DAY TRIP to the Big Island, please make your travel arrangements to and from the HILO AIRPORT. Schedule your flight arrival a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the tour start time AND provide your flight details at time of booking.
- Children ages 8 years and up may participate in tour. All participants must have a paid seat. We do not allow any “lap” children.
- Kilauea volcano is an active volcano, you may be exposed to volcanic gas on this tour.
- This tour cannot accommodate guests with wheelchairs, scooters or oxygen tanks.

Amazing!!!!! - AMAZING and a once in a lifetime experience. Garden and waterfall were beautiful and the lava tube was incredible. Our tour guide, Joshua, was extremely knowledgeable and so much fun. He kept us entertained and informed about the area and culture of Hilo. Very easy on and off from the cruise ship. Would highly recommend!!!!

Great day in Hilo - Fantastic day exploring the volcanic landscape on Hilo. Our guide Jill was extremely knowledgeable and explained the volcanic activity clearly. In addition to the lava field we explored a lava tunnel and viewed an area waterfall. We had a stop at the chocolate factory ( dipped cookies and candy samples were delicious!) and the last stop of the day was the beautiful oriental gardens. The pickup and drop off at the cruise port was seamless- we had a group of 10 and van was comfortable.
Jill was an awesome guide and kept us on schedule throughout the day.

Great day trip for cruise passengers!!! - This tour was one of the best parts of our trip to the Big Island. Everything ran right on schedule, and our guide—who was born and raised in Hilo—was fantastic. You could tell she genuinely loved sharing the history, geology, and stories of the area. She made the volcano come alive with personal insights and local knowledge that really added something special.
We got to walk through a lava tube, see the massive Kilauea caldera up close, and visit areas covered by lava flows from the 70s. Each stop was fascinating and full of great photo ops. The guide made sure we had plenty of time to take it all in without feeling rushed.
The day wrapped up with a fun stop at a Hawaiian chocolate factory where we picked up a few tasty souvenirs. All in all, a well-paced, informative, and super enjoyable experience. Highly recommend if you want to really understand the volcanic side of the island with someone who knows it inside and out. Started at 8:30 with a prompt pickup at the cruise port and dropped off at 2pm. She even offered to drop us off at Walmart at the end, which I thought was awfully nice. Great day!

Jill was an amazing guide... - Jill was an amazing guide and storyteller. We enjoyed learning about Hawaiian history, culture and folk tales/legends. We had 4 kids with us, all pre-teens, they enjoyed every bit of this tour. We were mesmerized by all of the sights, especially the volcano, the lava tube and the Hawaiian rainforest. Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Great Volcano National Park Tour! - Great tour with Josh of the Volcano National Park! Kilauea was pretty steamy!! Also went through crazy lava tube. Stopped at beautiful Rainbow Falls and Big Island Candies had the best chocolate I have had in a long time along with fantastic shortbread. Josh gave a great tour with all the local info and history. Thank you so much!

Hilo Shore Excursion: Active Volcano, Lava Tube, Waterfall and Gardens - I had so much fun with my friend and so so many locations with a great guide sharing their stories living in Hilo and all the historic site information and recommendations. A must do excursion!
