- Boiling Pots - Continue your adventure up the Wailuku River to Boiling Pots. This spot offers fantastic photo opportunities when the river “boils” through the rock depressions.
- Kaumana Caves Park - Discover Kaumana Caves, part of the lava tube system that transported lava 1.5 miles from Hilo-town in 1881. Peek inside the cathedral-like space before enjoying a quick picnic-style lunch atop the caves.
- Mauna Kea - Your guide will lead you to a preferred stargazing location on Mauna Kea. Observe deep sky and planetary objects through a large aperture Dobsonian telescope under one of the clearest and most pristine skies on Earth! Our Dobsonian telescopes offer a true purist’s experience for viewing the night sky. Their fast focal ratio allows for expansive wide-field views of objects not possible with other tour telescopes. Depending on visibility and weather conditions, you’ll see galaxies, nebulae, star clusters, planets, double star systems, the moon, and more; all the highlights and showpiece objects like never before!
- Saddle Road - Next, travel across Saddle Road between Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, two of the tallest and most massive volcanoes on Earth. Your National Park Service-trained guide will discuss the volcanology, geology, and history of these magnificent wonders, providing detailed narration on the various lava flows and flora and fauna you’ll encounter. While enjoying the stunning terrestrial views, your guide will prepare equally breathtaking celestial views. Using a state-of-the-art solar telescope, your specially trained guide will let you safely observe the sun in true color, with vibrant solar flares, sunspots, prominences, and any other current activity, weather permitting.
