- Bisamberg - The culinary journey to Vienna’s finest wineries starts in the northeast of the city, on the left bank of the Danube, at the base of the Bisamberg. Geologically, the Bisamberg, approximately 360 meters high and an extension of the Vienna Woods across the Danube to the east, is composed of flysch, primarily clay and sandstone. At the base of the Bisamberg, the soil is rich in loess, formed mostly during the last ice age around 13,000 years ago, when glaciers and frost ground rocks and stones into rock flour. This rock flour was dispersed by the wind and settled in specific areas. Wiener Gemischter Satz Bisamberg DAC Wine can be found in the wineries of Stammersdorf and Strebersdorf, located to the left of the Danube.
- Mayer am Pfarrplatz - Heuriger - Beethovenhaus - Weingut - After exploring a winery on the left bank of the Danube, the tour continues across the Danube in Heiligenstadt. Heiligenstadt is situated on a beach terrace of a former Danube branch and extends up to the Kahlenberg. On Pfarrplatz at number 2 is the Beethoven House, a 17th-century building with a quaint village-like charm. Beethoven resided in the house at Pfarrplatz 2 in 1817, where he composed parts of the “Eroica.” In 1781, a mineral spring was discovered in the steaming pools near the parish church of St. Michael in Heiligenstadt. Analysis of the water revealed its benefits for rheumatism, skin, and liver issues. Beethoven relocated to Heiligenstadt to visit the bathhouse spring, hoping it would alleviate his worsening deafness. As his deafness advanced, Beethoven penned the “Heiligenstadt Testament” in Heiligenstadt, a letter to his brothers expressing his despair over his increasing deafness, which he never sent.
- Neustift am Walde - Neustift am Walde is a historic winegrowing village with two long rows of houses. At the rustic bar of the Fuhrgassl Huber winery, visitors can sample the Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC Ried Neuberg “68er” from the Neustift Neuberg vineyard. Ried Neuberg is a south-facing hillside vineyard with a subsoil of flysch rock. However, Neustift am Walde is renowned for its Kirtag. The Neustift Kirtag occurs annually on the feast day of St. Rochus in August. Following the festive mass, there is a procession featuring the Neustift winegrower’s crown and the raising of the guardian tree. This tradition dates back to a poor harvest by the Neustift winegrowers, who approached Empress Maria Theresa with a harvest crown to request tax exemption. The Empress granted the exemption on the condition that a Kirtag be held every year. Since 2020, the procession with the Hauerkrone has been recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage site.

Vienna is the only major city in the world to grow wine within its city limits. Around 80% of the grape varieties grown are white wines, with Grüner Veltliner, Riesling and Pinot Blanc being the most common. The Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC is the oldest ‘wine variety’ in Vienna. It is a wine in which the grapes of different grape varieties that grow in the same vineyard are harvested and processed at the same time. The speciality of a Gemischter Satz is therefore the subtle interplay of different grape varieties. The special thing about this tour is that you visit the best wineries in Vienna that serve their own wine. It gives you the opportunity to taste the Viennese Gemischter Satz from different winegrowers and vineyards in all its variations and quality grades, as regional wine, local wine and Riedenwein, on the spot. On this tour, you will taste these excellent Viennese wines with typical winery dishes such as bread spreads, roast pork and apple strudel for dessert.
