The river meanders through secluded regions, including areas of the Navajo Nation, offering access to some of the state’s most stunning and remote locations, like the San Juan River Gorge.
- Butler Wash Archaeological Ruin - This site is renowned for its remarkably preserved cliff dwellings, ingeniously built into the canyon’s rock faces by the Ancestral Puebloans. They skillfully used the natural rock formations for protection and shelter. The Butler Wash Ruin showcases multi-room structures and other architectural remains, offering valuable insights into the lives of its former inhabitants. Visitors can explore the remnants of these buildings, which include stone walls and small alcoves that once served as living quarters.

Struggling to choose between a land-based tour or a river adventure? This combined tour offers the best of both worlds, blending two of our favorite excursions into one incredible day on the San Juan. Enjoy an 8-mile float while paddling your own kayak, or share a tandem with a loved one. Two short, easy hikes will lead you to one of the largest rock art panels in North America and a 1,000-year-old cliff dwelling. Unlike Mesa Verde and other National Parks, this is a wilderness expedition, often allowing us to have these world-class sites all to ourselves. A delightful lunch will be served on the tranquil riverbanks, and the day will conclude with an exhilarating 4×4 Hummer ride back to Bluff.

Don't Miss This tour - it was an absolute blast and very informative (in a fun way!) - This was absolutely THE BEST! These folks know what they are doing and offer SOOO much more on the tour than listed. We learned so much about the petroglyphs and the land from our Navajo guides and they were a fun bunch of folks, also! The riverside picnic was awesome and the hummer ride back- DO NOT MISS!!! Can't say enough about how great this tour was, and Brock - one of the owners, I think? - was super easy to work with as we had to rearrange our tour for weather. DON'T hesitate - just go, you will not regret it!

Great Tour ever! - Kari was absolutely a pleasure to hangout with as a guide down the San Juan! She was very knowledgeable about the river and cliff dwellings! The bonus was I was in a tandem with my husband, so he did all the kayaking while I chilled and took in the breathtaking views!
The humvee ride back was SO much fun. Remember to buckle up and raise your arms up while sailing down the hills. It feels like an old wooden roller coaster. I was laughing so hard! Brock is a great driver! They make an awesome team!

Fun! - We had a very fun time. Floating the river was fun. The petroglyphs and ruins were amazing. We lucked out as there had been storm the night before so the hummer ride was loads of fun fording the flashing stream!

A must do.. - It was a great experience from start to finish. It is very well organized, on time, and there was no glitch of any kind. More importantly we felt safe on the river or climbing rocks to see old artefacts with Eli, or riding down the hill in a Hummer with Brock. We learned a lot along the way, saw beautiful sceneries and lots of wildlife, and did things that we would never had done on our own. Big thanks to Eli and Brock for sharing their knowledge and love of this land, and for being as competent as they are friendly. Although we enjoyed every minute of the day, the exhilarating Hummer ride down the hills is by itself a treat..

Unforgettable day with Eli and Brock on the San Juan River and in the Bear Ears National Monument - Superb boat day with ELI, so friendly who taught us a lot about the history and geology of the area and in Hummer with BROCK the best driver of all time!
We also had the opportunity to speak with ELLE who like ELI takes you on the water.
Like ELI and BROCK , she is also passionate about what she does and living in this beautiful region.
In short, if you have to take an excursion, it is with Wild Expeditions.

Kayaking and off road adventure, Bluff Utah - This was the most amazing experience! Our guides, Eli and Raquel were excellent! The 6 mile float down the river was beautiful. We saw lots of wildlife from wild horses to blue herring and the historical information was very interesting. After the float Eli and Raquel served us a nice picnic lunch then we jumped in an off road vehicle and headed up and over the mountain to see some beautiful ruins left behind by the Indians and the Mormon settlers. Eli and Raquel were very kind, knowledgeable, interesting and fun! I highly recommend this tour and these two lovely individuals for a great day of exploring in Bluff Utah!

Really good chance to see off-road Utah - Great trip, Ally was a super guide and while we really did it for the river part, the 4x4 portion was a blast. The river canoeing was very relaxed and it was a real bonus to get up close and see a cliff dwelling with nobody else around.

Amazing day trip! - Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable about the area. The kayaking portion of the tour was relaxing. There were a lot of nats on the river but they were just irritating and did not bite. The off-roading was fun, my boys and husband loved it. We didn't need to carry anything to and from the vehicle. A good lunch of sandwiches, chips, fruit and vegetables was provided. We would definitely recommend it and do it again!

Fun Day! - Great tour guides- they were fun and educated. We were excited to kayak and see ruins but learned that the ride in the Hummer was just as much fun. Great driver- safe and fun! My family (ages 11-25) all loved the adventure. Thanks for a fun day!
