Experience the sea around Boa Vista Island with Onbarco - more than just fishing. - I was on Boa Vista for the first time in July 2025. Of course, as an avid angler I also had to explore the island's fishing grounds. Through Tripadvisor I decided to book a full day (8 hours) fishing trip with trolling and jigging at Onbarco. Communication with the provider went smoothly and easily via email and WhatsApp. To my great delight, the trip came about, although I had only registered as an individual. After the confirmation I got some valuable tips for the trip. The pick-up time from RIU Karamboa was set at 6:40 a.m. On the day of the excursion, the transfer vehicle was on time at the entrance of my hotel. After a short transfer to the port of Sal Rei, the fishing trip could begin. We tendered for the "Jenny" to the excursion boat. A Wellcraft 222 Fisherman with 250 hp engine and state-of-the-art equipment. Really a great boat. In addition to the current technology, an emergency toilet was even on board. The crew that day consisted of Captain Marco and Zè as first mate. The three of us came from Portugal, Mexico and Germany. A colorful, relaxed and fun troupe. After being briefed by Captain Marco, who had conscientiously familiarized us with the equipment and safety features of the boat, we started to the fishing grounds in the south of the island. With 250 hp in the back, even longer distances are no problem. The rods and reels used, by Penn and Daiwa, were as good as new and of the best quality. A tackle that I would also buy privately. Battle harnesses, for the larger, strong fighting fish, are available on the boat if necessary. We were lucky with the weather and so there was a beautiful view of the sea and of course the island of Boa Vista. Unfortunately, the catches were limited that day, despite great efforts by the crew. Well, every day is fishing day, but not every day is fishing day. So we were still able to land two beautiful yellowfin tunas. Personally, I was allowed to drill one of the two magnificent fish that had bitten onto an octopus mount on the Trolling Rig. Another was outwitted by another guest while jigging. Zè safely transported the two fish into the boat. So a souvenir photo was taken. Unfortunately, I lost two more fish while jigging. A dropout in the drill and a string break. As compensation we were accompanied for a while by a large group of dolphins. There's always something special about an encounter like this. In addition, turtles appeared on the surface of the water again and again. No wonder, after all, it was high season for the laying of eggs of the turtles. With a good eye you could see tunas robbing on the surface of the water. The sighting of a few jumping manta rays was also particularly remarkable. I've never seen anything like it before. So every trip on the sea is full of surprises. With Onbarco you have a professional and reliable partner for such experiences. The day felt like a tour with good friends. My special thanks go to Captain Marco, fishing pro Zè and of course Debora for the friendly communication and transfer. Many greetings from Marcus from Germany!
