• Mahabodhi Temple - Located 115 km south of Patna, the capital of Bihar, and 16 km from Gaya, the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya is one of the four sacred sites associated with the life of Lord Buddha, particularly his Enlightenment. This site contains the most significant remains from the 5th-6th century A.D. in the Indian subcontinent. Covering an area of 4.8600 hectares, the Mahabodhi Temple Complex was initially constructed by Emperor Asoka in the 3rd century B.C., with the current structure dating back to the 5th–6th centuries. It is one of the earliest Buddhist temples made entirely of brick from the late Gupta period and has greatly influenced brick architecture over the centuries.
