• Capitolio Nacional - Situated at the southern end of the square, the National Capitol houses the Colombian Congress. Constructed by Thomas Reed between 1848 and 1926, it has been a National Monument since 1975.
• Catedral Primada de Bogotá - This Neoclassical structure on the eastern side of the square was built between 1807 and 1823 and serves as the Archbishop’s residence.
• Casa de Nariño - La Casa de Nariño is the official residence of the President of Colombia and serves as the government headquarters.
• Palacio Liévano - Featuring a French Renaissance style, this building occupies the western side of the square and functions as Bogotá’s city hall.
• Museo Botero del Banco de la República - A short walk from the square leads to the Botero Museum. Colombian artist Fernando Botero donated 87 artworks from various artists and 123 of his own pieces to the city.
• Barrio La Candelaria - Bogotá’s historical center, known as La Candelaria, offers a chance to admire the district’s colonial architecture and vibrant houses.
• Mount Monserrate - Before departing the historical center, take a cable car to Monserrate, the city’s highest point, offering stunning views.
• Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá - Depart the city heading north, with a brief lunch stop en route to Zipaquirá, meaning ‘city of our Father’ in Chibcha. In pre-Columbian times, salt was the primary commodity, and ‘salt cakes’ were the sole currency. As technology advanced, larger quantities of salt were extracted, forming an underground deposit where the Salt Cathedral was built, 180 meters below ground. Inside, the “Capilla de los Mineros” chapel honors the Virgin “Our Lady of the Rosary of Guasá” (Guasá means ‘mine’ in Chibcha). The tour includes transportation from Bogotá to Zipaquirá and back.
