- Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirá - Depart the city heading north, with a brief lunch stop en route to Zipaquirá, meaning ‘city of our Father’ in Chibcha. In pre-Columbian times, salt was the primary commodity, and ‘salt cakes’ were the sole currency. As technology advanced, larger quantities of salt were extracted, forming an underground deposit where the Salt Cathedral was built, 180 meters below ground. Inside, the “Capilla de los Mineros” chapel honors the Virgin “Our Lady of the Rosary of Guasá” (Guasá means ‘mine’ in Chibcha). The tour includes transportation from Bogotá to Zipaquirá and back.
