Standing at 628 meters, the Bolafjall platform offers a spectacular view over Djúpið or Isafjörður deep. This long inlet marks the watery boundary between inhabited and uninhabited lands, with the Hornstrandir Nature Reserve having no roads. A NATO radar station is also located at the summit of Bolafjall. Originally built by the Americans, it is now managed by the Icelandic coast guard.
- Bolungarvik - Syðridalur in Bolungarvík is renowned for its old lignite mine situated in the valley. Lignite was extracted from this mine between 1917 and 1921, during and after the First World War. The mining ceased because coal from Europe became more accessible post-war. Entering the mine requires some crawling, but once inside, the ceiling height allows you to stand upright. The walk to the mine takes approximately 20-25 minutes along a marked trail.
