Borgarnes - The capital of West Iceland, situated in the City Fjord.
Eiriksstadir - This charming turf-roofed house was once the residence of Eirik the Red and his son Leif the Lucky, who ventured to America long before Columbus was born!
Coastal cliffs - The gateway to the Westfjords. Numerous rocky islands fill a small bay at the edge of Breiðafjörður Fjord.
Vatnsfjörður - Home to the Þingmanná Waterfalls and a breathtaking canyon.
Kleifaheiði - Kleifakarl - The journey crosses the towering Kleifaheiði mountain range en route to the Patreksfjörður area. At the summit, there’s an intriguing sight: a 5-meter-high stone statue called Kleifabúi, erected by the engineers who built the mountain road, marking the pinnacle of their work.
Látrabjarg - Follow gravel paths carved into steep mountainsides to reach the renowned bird colonies and Bjargtangar Lighthouse at Iceland’s westernmost point. The cliff tops rise more than 440 meters above the surf, marking the westernmost edge of Europe.
Westfjord Highlights
Rauðisandur - A 10-kilometer-long beach at Rauðisandur with sands of various colors.
Önundarfjörður - Another photo opportunity awaits at Önundarfjörður Pier, offering outstanding views surrounded by black sand beaches and dunes.
Seven Fjords, Wildlife Spotting & Viking Longhouse
Bolafjall - Drive up Bolafjall (628m) to enjoy the view and walk on the skywalk platform.
Osvor Maritime Museum - A collection of turf-roofed buildings used in the past by local fishermen.
Westfjords Region - From Ísafjörður, enjoy unforgettable views as the road winds up and down seven stunning fjords!
The Arctic Fox Centre - Arctic foxes roam this area, so keep an eye out for Iceland’s only native land mammal! If you don’t spot them in the wild, you can still meet them at the Arctic Fox Center and support their conservation.
Grabrok Crater - Heading south, pause the return journey to Reykjavík (ETA 8-9 pm) with a final stop at Grábrók Volcanic Craters, where you can stretch your legs and ascend the stairs to multiple viewing platforms.
