The Call of the Rila Mountains

As an adrenaline junkie with a penchant for extreme sports, the allure of skiing in the UNESCO World Heritage site of Rila National Park was irresistible. My crew and I, always on the hunt for the next thrill, set our sights on Borovets, Bulgaria’s oldest ski resort. The promise of premium ski hire, expert tuition, and the breathtaking beauty of the Rila Mountains was too tempting to pass up.

Upon arrival, the crisp mountain air filled my lungs, and the sight of snow-capped peaks set my heart racing. We headed straight to the ski hire depot, eager to gear up and hit the slopes. The process of collecting and fitting our equipment was a bit of a mixed bag. As seasoned adventurers, we were used to a more personalized touch, but the staff at the desk seemed a bit overwhelmed. Nevertheless, we were soon kitted out with top-notch gear, ready to tackle the mountain.

Mastering the Slopes with Neil

Enter Neil, our ski instructor from Hunters Ski School. From the moment we met him, his enthusiasm was infectious. Neil’s passion for skiing was evident, and his ability to cater to both beginners and more advanced skiers was impressive. As someone who thrives on pushing boundaries, I appreciated how Neil challenged us just enough to keep the adrenaline pumping.

Over the course of four days, Neil’s patience and expertise transformed my skiing technique. I went from a hesitant snow plough to confidently carving parallel turns. Neil’s drills and exercises were tailored to each of us, ensuring we all received the attention we needed. One of my friends, a competent skier, even found Neil’s advice invaluable in refining their skills.

The highlight of my time with Neil was the moment I conquered a blue run, reaching speeds of over 50kph. The rush of wind against my face and the thrill of speed was exhilarating. By the final day, I was gliding down the training slope with newfound confidence, executing flowing turns that made me feel like a true skier.

Skiing in Borovets was more than just a physical challenge; it was an adventure that tested my limits and rewarded me with unforgettable experiences. The camaraderie among the instructors at Hunters Ski School was palpable, and their genuine enjoyment of their work added to the overall experience.

While the initial equipment fitting left something to be desired, the quality of instruction more than made up for it. Neil’s dedication and passion for skiing were the highlights of the trip, and I wouldn’t hesitate to return for more lessons with him.
