Deungnyang-myeon - < Haepyeong Lakeside Trail >
A hidden gem in Boseong, Haepyeong Lake is situated in a remote area inaccessible by public transportation, preserving its quiet and untouched atmosphere. This 3.9 km lakeside trail offers a peaceful retreat, surrounded by stone pagodas, cedar, bamboo, and maple trees. The trail is mostly flat, with only a few gentle inclines and rocky sections, making it an easy and comfortable walk. This natural setting is ideal for relaxation, healing, and refreshing both body and mind through the soothing sounds of nature. Midway along the trail, there is a unique vinegar park, known for its naturally fermented black vinegar. - Deungnyang-myeon - For those who enjoy hiking, an alternative is to hike up Mt. Obongsan instead of the lake trail. The hike follows a rocky ridge, passing historic stone pagodas and a hidden waterfall. Upon reaching the summit, hikers are rewarded with a stunning view of the land, the sea, and nearby islands. Mt. Obongsan also holds historical significance: from the 1940s to the 1980s, it was a major quarrying site for Gudeuljang, the flat stones used in traditional Korean underfloor heating systems. At its peak, the mountain supplied nearly 70% of the country’s Gudeuljang. The well-preserved old cart trail—once used to transport stones by ox-drawn carts—now serves as the hiking path. The hike takes approximately 45 minutes to reach the 320-meter summit. Hikers can choose either the mountain trail or the lake trail. For those wishing to enjoy both, they can hike up to the waterfall (a 15-minute walk) and then take a walk along half of the lake trail.
- Ginam-gil - Nestled in the pristine natural surroundings of Haepyeong Lake and Obongsan Mountain Valley, Choru is a truly unique destination in Korea, dedicated to crafting premium black vinegar. Using organic brown rice and natural underground spring water from Boseong, Choru ferments its vinegar in traditional ‘breathing’ onggi (Korean earthenware) jars, handmade by a master artisan. Choru’s black vinegar is aged outdoors for at least three years, slowly maturing through sunlight, wind, and time to create a well-balanced vinegar. Choru is especially known for its green tea black vinegar and balsamic apple vinegar among all of its products. Inside the vinegar café, inspired by traditional Korean Hanok architecture, visitors can enjoy pristine natural surroundings along with unique beverages and thoughtfully paired small bites made with Choru’s vinegars.
