Magura - Nestled in the Piatra Craiului National Park Mountains in the Southern Carpathians, the villages of Pestera an Magura offer an authentic glimpse into rural Romanian life. Your immersive, full-day tour begins in central Brașov, where you’ll meet your local guide and board a private vehicle for the 45-minute drive to the village. Along the way, let your guide know if you have any specific interests so he or she can customize the day’s itinerary.
Learn about the history of the villages, where the traditional industries of sheep farming and cheese making are still practice by many of the village’s. Visit the Bat Cave about 10 minutes. Next, set off into the surrounding hills and meadows og Magura village for a moderate guided hike for 2 to 3 hours. Let your guide know if you prefer to hike for longer or shorter, and go at a pace that’s comfortable to you. -
Pestera - Make a stop to the oldest guest house in the National Park. Meet some of the farmers, and sample two-three different kinds of cheese.
After working up an appetite, we have a hearty lunch. Savour simple Romanian cuisine home-made from local farm-fresh ingredients including eggs, vegetables and pork. Purchase beer or wine to top off your meal. From the guest house we have a walk in Pestera Village back to the car, about 1 hour. We can visit also the local church.

Private Day Tour to Mountain Villages - We are a couple in our seventies and took a private day tour with Activetravel in Romanian mountain villages. Our guide was Marian. We must admit this was an exceptionally successful tour. We enjoyed every moment of it. The route was beautiful, everything around looked just like a postcard green hills ,meadows and fields, full of wild flowers. Marian appeared to be not only a highly experienced professional but also a very kind and pleasant person. In addition, we were served a tasty Romanian lunch.
Thank you Marian for such a wonderful day tour.

A taste of the countryside! - We enjoyed Mihai’s expertise and company! We took a short trip to Bran’s castle and then headed to a village. It was wonderful getting to take a long walk in the countryside and later enjoying a local meal and hospitality. Great experience overall with Mihail giving us a brief history of Romania.

The best tour we did in Brasov! - This was the best trip we did during our time in Brasov. Our guide, Charlie, was exceptionally knowledgeable, made us feel very welcome, and was considerate of our needs through the day. The route we took was idyllic, and all the elements came together to form a really great day. Would wholeheartedly recommend - a real bargain!

Unprofessional tour guide - Pros and lots of cons to this tour. The pros are I loved hiking through the mountains, and the country side to Romania. It was truly beautiful, and I don’t know how else I would have seen it without this tour. So I am truly glad I was able to see it. As for the cons, our tour leader, Bogdan was very unprofessional and I didn’t feel comfortable for most of the day. He loves to talk about himself nonstop about how great he is, and all the men in the group (I was the only woman) he would love to challenge by trying to hit them in the face claiming to “test their reflexes and to practice some martial arts” (like what?!). You could tell some of the men were supper uncomfortable and he continued wanting to challenge them in different ways, especially during the hiking portion of it too. It felt like “little man syndrome” in a way. Then he would talk about politics nonstop, which mind you, the USA election just occurred and I was looking forward to actually getting away from that reality for a bit, and he challenged the ways of how America runs the country. I didn’t want to talk about it, I wanted to learn about Romania, the history, culture, etc. not have a huge debate about the USA for 90% of the day. So it did ruin my mood for the day, even though I was trying so hard to focus of the Romania beauty around me. From the reviews I see there are other great tour guides on here. So I think this tour does have potential because like I said it’s truly beautiful, but just with a different guide.
