The Transfagarasan Road, constructed as a strategic military route, stands as the highest (2042m) and most spectacular paved road in Romania. It stretches from North to South across the highest parts of the Carpathian Mountains, specifically the Fagaras Mountains, linking the historic regions of Transylvania and Wallachia. The Fagaras Mountains are the tallest in Romania and the Carpathian range, with Moldoveanu Peak reaching 2544m. The road passes close to Balea Lac, a natural glacier lake located at an altitude of 2035m, measuring 360 meters in length, 240 meters in width, and 11 meters in depth. Nearby is Balea Waterfall, standing at 60 meters high, and is one of Romania’s most renowned waterfalls.
