- Malá Fatra - The National Park of Malá Fatra is located in the westernmost high mountains of Slovakia, known as Malá Fatra. It boasts stunning gorges, rocky peaks, and an enticing ridge tour among its attractions.
The Krivánska section of the Malá Fatra Mountains was designated as a Protected Landscape Area in 1967 due to its remarkable natural resources and diverse plant and animal species. In 1988, it was reclassified as the National Park Malá Fatra. The park covers an area of 226 square kilometers, with a protective zone spanning 233 square kilometers.
The primary focus of protection is the area with its diverse geological history and varied relief forms, rare and valuable biocenoses, flora and fauna, and the exceptional value of forest and mountain ecosystems, including precious dwarf pinewoods and predatory animals such as wolves, lynxes, and bears. The National Park’s administration is based in Varín.
- Žilina - Žilina is the metropolis of north-western Slovakia, situated at the confluence of three rivers - the Vah, the Kysuca, and the Rajčianka. It is the fourth largest town in the Slovak Republic and serves as the seat of the Žilina Self-Governing Region, acting as a gateway to the Horné Považie region.
Žilina, with a population of 85,655, has experienced rapid development, significantly boosted by the investment of KIA Motors Slovakia. However, the town is not solely an automobile production hub; along with the Horné Považie region, it is also an appealing destination for tourists. It hosts the University of Žilina and, since 2008, the Žilina Bishopric. The town’s reputation as a center for workshop and conference tourism is also on the rise.
