The Blue Church - Church of St. Elizabeth - This captivating Art Nouveau structure in Bratislava is officially named the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary, but is commonly known as the “Blue Church.” Its Hungarian Art Nouveau style is mirrored by the nearby school on Grösslingova Street. Both were designed by Budapest architect Ödön Lechner (Edmund Lechner) and constructed in the early 20th century, with the church being consecrated on October 11, 1913.

The Old Bridge - Bratislava’s first bridge over the Danube was built in 1890 and inaugurated on December 30 by Emperor Franz Joseph I. Known as the border bridge since 1938, it marked the boundary between Czechoslovakia and Nazi Germany, which had occupied Petržalka. In April 1945, retreating German troops demolished it.

Pedal along the Danube River on cycling paths through the SNP Bridge, visit the Blue Church, and delve into Bratislava’s history. Continue cycling to the Iron Curtain border, where you’ll find the BS-4 massive concrete bunkers from the Second World War, constructed along Czechoslovakia’s western borders between 1935 and 1938. These bunkers were built to defend the country’s borders against the rise of Hitler in Germany. Bratislava-Petržalka is home to around 15 bunkers, but only BS-4 and BS-8 have been restored.
