Sailing with Sea Turtles: A Barbados Catamaran Adventure
In search of a new ocean adventure, I embarked on a catamaran cruise along Barbados’ west coast. With the promise of snorkeling with sea turtles and exploring shipwrecks, this trip was set to be a highlight of my Caribbean escapades.
Setting Sail on the El Tigre
The day began with a gentle breeze and the promise of adventure. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but the allure of a catamaran cruise along the west coast of Barbados was irresistible. The driver picked us up right on time, and his warm, friendly demeanor set the tone for the day. Arriving at Bridgetown harbor, the sight of the impressive El Tigre catamaran waiting for us was enough to stir excitement in even the most seasoned ocean lover.
As we boarded, the crew welcomed us with open arms, their humor and knowledge immediately putting everyone at ease. Before we even set sail, a sea turtle made a surprise appearance alongside the boat, a good omen for the day ahead. With the sails up and the engines cut, we glided past the cruise ship terminal, the picturesque coastline unfolding before us.
Snorkeling Adventures and Ocean Wonders
Our first stop was the stunning shipwrecks of Carlisle Bay. As someone who has surfed many waves, the underwater world is a familiar yet always thrilling place. The guided snorkeling tour revealed a vibrant tapestry of marine life. Thousands of fish, in every imaginable color and size, swam within inches of our faces, while the shipwrecks lay just a few meters below, teeming with life. Another turtle was spotted resting on the seabed, a serene sight that never fails to captivate.
Back on board, the drinks flowed freely, a delightful mix of rum punch, beer, and soft drinks, catering to every taste. The crew’s humor and friendliness made the experience even more enjoyable, as we cruised up the beautiful west coast. Our next snorkeling spot, a wreck off Sandy Lane beach, was equally mesmerizing. The coral reef below was a kaleidoscope of colors, with fish, sea snakes, and even a ray making appearances.
A Feast for the Senses
Lunch was served on board, and it was nothing short of a feast. Freshly prepared chicken, macaroni pie, rice, salad, and garlic bread filled our plates, the quality of the food matching the beauty of our surroundings. After lunch, there was more time to swim in the crystal-clear waters or simply lounge on the spacious deck, soaking in the sun and the sea breeze.
As we made our gentle cruise back to the harbor, the search for turtles continued, each sighting a reminder of the ocean’s magic. The crew’s outstanding service throughout the five-hour voyage made this trip the highlight of my holiday. For anyone seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure, this Barbados Catamaran Cruise is a must-try. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
