Curtea de Arges Monastery - The tour kicks off with a scenic drive from Bucharest to Curtea de Arges, the historic capital of Wallachia and a city rich in cultural heritage. Here, visit the Curtea de Arges Monastery, constructed between 1512 and 1517. The monastery is renowned for the legend of Manole, a significant Romanian myth symbolizing that “nothing eternal can be created without sacrifice.”
Today, the monastery stands as a vital historical monument in Romania and serves as the final resting place for several members of the Romanian Royal Family.
Transfagarasan Highway - Next, travel along the breathtaking Transfagarasan Highway, celebrated as one of the world’s most beautiful roads. It traverses the Southern Carpathians through Romania’s highest mountains, the Fagaras, reaching an altitude of 2042 meters. This is an ideal spot for capturing stunning photographs of the landscape.
Big Square (Piata Mare) - Conclude the day in the medieval city of Sibiu, boasting a rich history spanning over 900 years. Sibiu is a delightful destination year-round, hosting the International Theatre Festival in summer and one of Romania’s most impressive Christmas Markets in winter.

Sibiu – Hunedoara – Alba Iulia – Turda Salt Mine – Cluj-Napoca
Castelul Corvinilor - Day two begins early with a visit to Hunedoara to explore Corvin Castle, a site with unique charm. Also known as Hunyad Castle, it was home to John Hunyadi and is one of Romania’s largest castles.
Cetatea Alba Iulia - The next stop is Alba Iulia, the site of a pivotal event in Romanian history: the Union of Transylvania with Romania. Visit the Alba Carolina Fortress, constructed between 1715 and 1738 in the Vauban style by over 20,000 Romanian peasants.
Salina Turda - Departing Alba Iulia, head to Turda, a small village featuring one of the world’s coolest underground attractions, as noted by Business Insider. The Turda Salt Mine boasts 13 underground levels and a spectacular theme park with a Ferris wheel, mini-golf, tennis court, and a lake.
Cluj-Napoca City Hall - End the day in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania’s largest city and a major student hub in Romania. After a walking tour of the Old City Center, enjoy free time to explore local cafes and bohemian restaurants near the hotel.
Cluj-Napoca – Bistrita – Voronet Monastery
National Centre for Information and Tourism Promotion Bistrita - En route to Bucovina, stop in Bistrita, a city nestled in the Bargau Mountains’ foothills, near Pasul Tihuta, the road linking Transylvania and Bucovina. This is where Bram Stoker’s character, Jonathan Harker, stayed before meeting Count Dracula.
Manastirea Voronet - After a brief sightseeing tour of Bistrita and sampling local bakery treats, depart Transylvania for Romania’s sacred land. The first stop in Bucovina is the Voronet Monastery, one of the 8 UNESCO Painted Monasteries of Bucovina. Built in 1488, it is famed for its distinctive “Blue of Voronet.”
In the evening, arrive at the hotel and enjoy a traditional Romanian dinner.
Voronet – Moldovita Monastery – Sucevita Monastery – Iasi
Moldovita Monastery - Begin the day by heading north to Moldovita Monastery, one of the oldest monastic sites with a rich history. Built between 1532 and 1537, it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1993.
Sucevita Monastery - The next destination is Sucevita Monastery. Constructed in 1585, legend has it that all materials were transported by a woman using an ox-drawn cart to atone for her sins.
Centrul Istoric Iasi - In the evening, reach Iasi, Romania’s second-largest city and the birthplace of many notable figures. After a brief tour of this romantic and historic city, check-in at the hotel.
Iasi – Targu Neamt – Piatra Neamt
Neamt Fortress - From Iasi, travel to Targu Neamt for a tour of the Neamt Citadel, built during Peter I’s reign (1375-1391).
Piatra Neamt – Bicaz – Corund – Biertan – Sighisoara
Red Lake - On day six, journey to Transylvania, passing through the stunning Bicaz Gorges to reach the first landmark, a lake known for its unusual color. The Red Lake formed in 1837 when heavy storms caused Mt. Ucigasu to collapse, blocking streams. The resulting deposits had a reddish hue, giving the lake its name.
Biserica din Corund - The next stop is Corund, a major pottery center in Transylvania. Besides pottery, locals engage in woodworking and trade, using clay extracted from a nearby stream.
Biertan Fortified Church - Leaving Corund, arrive at Biertan, one of Transylvania’s renowned UNESCO Villages with Fortified Churches. Saxon colonists first settled here in the 13th century, attracted by the fertile soil ideal for winemaking.
Centrul Istoric Sighisoara - The final stop of the day is Sighisoara, home to Europe’s last inhabited citadel. Built by Saxon colonists in the 12th century, its unique features earned it a UNESCO World Heritage designation.
Sighisoara – Viscri – Brasov
Viscri Fortified Church - The next destination is Viscri, a village that captivated Prince Charles with its simplicity and preserved traditions. Meet local women renowned for their culinary skills. Viscri is one of Transylvania’s Villages with Fortified Churches, and before departing, visit the charming Viscri Church.
Brasov Historical Center - Continue to Brasov, one of Romania’s most beautiful cities, centrally located, and enjoy a brief walking tour.
Brasov – Bran Castle– Sinaia – Bucharest
Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle) - Just 30 minutes from Brasov is Bran, a village famous for Bran Castle. With over six centuries of history, Bran Castle is often associated with Dracula, thanks to Bram Stoker’s novel. Discover the history of Vlad the Impaler and the connection between Vlad Tepes and Dracula.
Peles Castle - The next stop is Sinaia, where you will visit Europe’s first fully electrified castle. Peles Castle covers 3200 sq. meters, with 160 rooms and over 30 bathrooms. It housed one of Europe’s most significant painting collections and is renowned for its extensive collection of over 4,000 European and Oriental weapons.

Also known as the People’s House, it was part of a larger project by Nicolae Ceausescu during Romania’s communist era. The building was designed to house all state organs and serve as a safe house against earthquakes and nuclear attacks.
After touring the Palace of the Parliament, head to Bucharest’s Old Town for a leisurely lunch.
The last stop is the Bucharest Village Museum, first opened in 1936. It spans 14 hectares and features 380 monuments, 60,000 traditional objects, and over 250,000 archived documents, all showcasing traditional Romanian life.

We’ll direct our expedition towards Romania’s western region where we’ll admire Cluj-Napoca, explore the Turda Salt Mine, and marvel at the Alba Carolina Fortress before proceeding to the timeless realm of Bukovina. In Bukovina, we’ll tour the UNESCO-recognized Painted Monasteries and become acquainted with the local customs and traditions.
We’ll then make our way back to Transylvania to behold some of its iconic landmarks, such as the UNESCO-acclaimed Villages with Fortified Churches, the Sighisoara Citadel, and Bran Castle, not forgetting the city of Brasov. Our journey continues with an exploration of the former domicile of the Romanian royals, Peles Castle, before returning to Bucharest for a city tour of Romania’s capital.
