- Palace of Parliament - During the Bucharest City Tour at the Palace of Parliament, also known as the People’s House, visitors will gain insight into the detrimental effects of a totalitarian regime like communism on a nation. The sheer scale of the building’s opulence and grandeur, a product of “the sleep of reason,” is truly humbling.
Imagine the opportunity to witness the second largest administrative building in the world, second only to the Pentagon, and envision sharing this remarkable experience with future generations.
- “Dimitrie Gusti” National Village Museum - On the Bucharest City Tour, a visit to The National Village Museum offers a unique glimpse into Romanian traditions. Here, visitors will discover how Romanian villagers historically created ecological and sustainable environments in their own backyards. The museum showcases their simple, modest lifestyle, harmoniously integrated with their surroundings.
By booking a private guide in Bucharest, visitors can explore the world of traditional Romanian houses, whether large or small, constructed from wood, adobe, stone, and other materials from across the country. National symbols like the mill and wooden church are also on display, illustrating how these cultural treasures have united Romanians for millennia without the need for conquest.
- Calea Victoriei - On Calea Victoriei (Victory Avenue), a private guide will reveal the fascinating historical contrasts: on one side stands the Royal Palace, while on the other, the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party and Revolution Square, where Ceausescu made his helicopter escape.
Visitors will encounter old orthodox churches shrouded in mystery, a music store with a vast selection, as well as casinos, bohemian restaurants, museums, theatres, tea shops, retail outlets, and gift shops for souvenirs. The tour also includes the National History Museum, the Romanian Athenaeum, the CEC Palace, and more.
- Piaka Revolukiei - Revolution Square, Bucharest
This private tour delves into the era of communism, transporting visitors back to the pivotal moment when dictator Nicolae Ceausescu was overthrown, leaving behind a legacy of secrets, wealth, and controversies surrounding the state security service and his offshore accounts.
As previously mentioned, the tour includes a visit to the Senate Palace, the former headquarters of the Central Committee of the Romanian Communist Party, and the site where the December 1989 Revolution began—a significant historical event marked by human courage and sacrifice that led to Ceausescu’s removal from power.
-
Snagov Monastery - A delightful surprise awaits just 40 minutes outside Bucharest on an island, where the tomb of Dracula is located.
-
Ceausescu Mansion - The “Ceauşescu Mansion” served as the private residence of Nicolae and Elena Ceauşescu and their children, Nicu, Zoia, and Valentin, for 25 years (1965-1989).
Originally built in the mid-1960s and known as the “Spring Palace,” the mansion was expanded between 1970 and 1972. The design of the Ceauşescu family’s residence was entrusted to Aron Grimberg-Solari (born 1928). The palace’s architecture is enhanced by landscaping designed by architect Robert Woll, who also served as the main furniture designer, and landscape engineer Teodosiu.
