Located approximately 100 kilometers from Bucharest and 44 kilometers from Ploiesti, the Slanic salt mine has been a renowned site for spa and tourism activities since 1853, when it was officially recognized as a national tourist attraction in Romania. Among the notable features of the salt mine, particularly the Union Mine, which is the main tourist and health attraction in the area, is the vast amount of excavated salt, approximately 2.9 million cubic meters. This excavation has resulted in the formation of enormous cavities, including 14 trapezoidal rooms covering a total area of about 80,000 square meters. These underground chambers have a ceiling opening of 10 meters, a width of 32 meters at the base, and a height of 54 meters. The salt mine reaches a depth of 208 meters, earning it the distinction of being the largest salt mine in Europe.
