Efficient, drama-free tour - We did a half-day tour on the Buda side one day and a half-day tour on the Pest side the next day. We walked and used public transit. Three of us being over 65, the public transit was free; for the fourth person, he took advantage of the 24-hour ÖFFI tickets. Gergely strikes the right balance for us between every guide extreme. For example, between sensetionalising and trivialising: he gives the facts, and tells of the level of uncertainty associated with them. He does not present legends as truth, but he still mentions them. He talks enough, but leaves time for questions. When answering questions, the answers reveal a depth of knowledge, insight and intelligence. So for example when asked why Pest went through a massibe building phase 1860 to 1910, he gave as reasons the much greater area of Hungary at that time that led to much more wealth, and Hungary's access to the sea at that time (with the port Fiume) that they lost in 1918. We saw an incredible amount in a short time. The cost of his guiding is very reasonable and does not add much to the cost of the entire visit to Budapest, yet brings it much more value. When we are next here, in six months, we will definitely call on him again.
