Is it feasible to hike to Hungary’s highest peak from Budapest in a single day? Surprisingly, it is! The journey begins in Budapest with a lengthy bus ride to Mátraháza. From there, a longer uphill trek through picturesque beech forests leads to Kékes, the highest peak. At the summit, a towering telecommunication structure with a panoramic terrace enhances the experience. The descent from the peak includes visits to several lookout points offering breathtaking views to the north. The journey continues to the ancient ruins of a small fort, providing a stunning vista of the Mátra mountains and the southern plains. Finally, a bus from a quaint village returns to Budapest.
