Magnificent tour - Memento Park was truly a highlight of my week in Budapest. The tour, led by Ildi (a high school teacher) provided just the right amount of historical context, intriguing details, and first-hand memories of growing up in the era where the these statues towered throughout Budapest. The park itself is a thought-provoking piece of art designed to provoke discussion about democracy and authoritarianism. It is a bit complicated to get to on public transportation, but well worth the effort.

Excellent experience - Although the park is on the outskirts of Budapest, it is definitely worth the short trip out. We went on the guided tour, really good value. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable and was clearly passionate about the subject, giving insight into the statues. A highly recommended experience.

Excellent experience - Brilliant. Great to see the socialist monuments that were suddenly out of favour after 1989. The guided tour was top notch, very informative, very objective. The tour guide is really good at her job, very friendly and answered lots of questions with details and also big picture answers.

Your guide is necessary for a good experience - In my opinion, this place would not be a very great experience without a tour guide. Having a tour guide explain everything and walk you through need a huge difference! Our guide was really wonderful and I am really grateful we were able to schedule this!

Fantastic experience - We took part in a guided tour of momento park and I highly recommend it. There was a small group of us and our tour guide Judit was fantastic. You can visit the park without a tour, but the benefit of having a tour guide was so we could experience the lived history. We learnt so much about Hungary under communism, the failed rebellion and life after that time. The people of Budapest decided to keep the statues from that time to tell the stories from then. Having the guided tour enabled us to learn so much. It’s an extremely well worthwhile experience and was probably our favourite thing we did in Budapest.

Statues of Communism - The history of communism with its statues. The leadership was very good. Very exciting. The architecture of the statues and Memento Park has a lot of information that you can only recognize at second glance

Well deserved to be on Rough Guide's 15 things not to miss in Budapest! - We drove to Memento Park on a braw Friday morning, quite chilly as it's an open-air site, but it surely was a fantastic experience that didn't disappoint. The park is thought-provoking, offering insight into Hungary's complex history under Soviet rule. Our guide (unfortunately, I didn’t get her name) was wonderful — knowledgeable, passionate, and engaging. She explained the historical context behind the statues, shedding light on how they symbolised propaganda, control, and the Soviet influence on Hungary. What stood out most was how the park frames this period of history with its design. Rather than glorifying the past, it serves as a reminder of the empty promises of communism and the importance of understanding the impact of ideology. Walking among these once imposing now desolate monuments really put history into perspective, and the guide’s explanations made it even more meaningful. If you’re in Budapest, Memento Park is well worth a visit. With the help of our lovely guide, it’s an educational experience that requires visitors reflect on Hungary’s journey through and beyond the Soviet era sensibly.
