- Palvolgyi Caves - The Palvolgyi Cave system is the longest in Hungary, featuring a maze of narrow passages and hollow spaces. Visitors should be prepared to climb, as the tour includes over 400 stairs and a 7-meter ladder. In addition to stalactites and stalagmites, the cave boasts calcite and barite crystals, as well as calcite plate deposits from ancient hot-water lakes.

This 2.5-3 hour private Cave Walk explores two caves, both featuring paved paths and artificial lighting. The first cave is known as Budapest’s “underground flower garden” due to its distinctive mineral formations, including cave corals, calcite plates, and gypsum crystals. The second cave showcases calcite and barite crystals, along with calcite plate deposits from ancient hot-water lakes. Visitors will also encounter stalactites and stalagmites.
Please note: This tour is designed for small groups (maximum 14 people) with an English-speaking guide. The caves can also be visited at a lower cost by joining the shorter, regular Hungarian guided tours (typically for school groups or families) that start every hour.

The cave can be reached by bus No. 29 leaving from Kolosy square. You have to step off at the fifth bus stop, named Szemlő-Hegyi cave. By car, you have to follow Pusztaszeri street. The sign Szemlő.hegyi cave and the entrance building can be seen from a distance, you have to stop here.

get down - Dark and cool, i recommend a mobile/flashlight and a light jacket.
The tour includes a cave right at the entrance and after a sho walk (10min) a second cave tour.
The experience was great and the guide was friendly and helpful.

Budapest Cave Walking - An excellent experience with a brilliant guide who was so knowledgeable about the cave systems. We visited 2 separate caves which were a good 20 minutes walk apart. When they say dress for the cold believe them. Luckily we had taken the advice.
There is a lot of walking and climbing up and down steps plus a 7m ladder climb. You will need to have a reasonable fitness level for this particular event.
If you are able to do this, it is well worth it but don't go if tired.

June cave exploration - Great experience, would definitely recommend! The path wasn’t difficult and the pace was good. The temperature in both cave systems was fine and didn’t need a jacket.

Very cool experience! - Super cool experience and I mean that in two ways! Cool as in awesome, but cool as in chilly inside the caves as well. But it was great learning about why these caves exist and our guide had a fun sense of humor as well.
You get to explore two caves on this journey and after the first one, you have a great view of Budapest and then get to enjoy your inner child by going down a brief playground slide.
The walk to the second cave is half a mile (our group did it in 12 minutes) and it has a mild incline at some points but it's really a pretty leisurely hike.
Bring a sweatshirt to wear inside the cave. The temperature inside is about 11 celsius or 50 fahrenheit. It's also damp and you may have water drip on you (though nothing significant. You won't get drenched or anything)

Two different caves in one go, really good guide - The first cave is very stunning and has some features you cannot see often. The second one is a more standard cave, mais great to visit too. A short walk of 10-15min. is between the two caves. Pretty easy to walk in the cave. The guide is really good and interesting

Great trip - Great trip. The guide was very good and informative, however I could have avoided all the times he showed us e.g. Snow White and the 7 dwarfs or a crocodile etc. but otherwise a really good trip, can be highly recommended.

Magical cave experience - This was an excellent, fun trip, and our leader, Peter, was very entertaining and knowledgeable about the caves that we visited. There are a lot of stairs to climb inside the cave but there are handrails and the stairs are very substantial.

Nice cave tour!!@ - We took the tour of Szemlő-hegyi-cave and Palvolgyi cave. There was a 15 minute 3D movie about all of the caves under Budapest. Victor was our guide and he provided great information about the history and geology of the caves with a good bit of humor too! There are concrete paths through a lot of the tour with some steep and uneven steps and a ladder in the mix, so consider your physical condition for this tour. There aren't a lot of spectacular cave formations due to the way the caves were formed but enough diversity of deposits and geology to keep things interesting.
If you Google Map to Pusztaszeri ut 37 it will place you in front of a driveway........just go a few meters north and you will find the cave.
Well worth your time while in Budapest. Recommended!!
