- Pyramids of Giza - Begin your tour with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a knowledgeable tour guide. The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza Necropolis, is located on the Giza Plateau in Greater Cairo, Egypt. It features the Great Pyramid of Giza, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their associated pyramid complexes and the Great Sphinx of Giza. These were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Ancient Egypt. The site also includes several cemeteries and remnants of a workers’ village.
The complex is situated at the edge of the Western Desert, approximately 9 km (5 mi) west of the Nile River in Giza, and about 13 km (8 mi) southwest of Cairo’s city center.
- Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, currently buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, but the site remains unexcavated.
- Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex comprises a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple revealed several statues of Khafre, some of which were discovered in a well in the temple’s floor by Mariette in 1860.
- Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
- Great Sphinx - The Great Sphinx is located on the east side of the complex. The prevailing view among Egyptologists is that the head of the Great Sphinx represents Khafre. In addition to these major monuments, there are several smaller satellite structures, known as “queens” pyramids, causeways, and valley pyramids.
- The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly referred to as the Egyptian Museum or Museum of Cairo, is situated in Cairo, Egypt. It houses an extensive collection of ancient Egyptian artifacts, with 120,000 items in total, a portion of which is on display while the rest are stored. Constructed in 1901 by the Italian company Garozzo-Zaffarani and designed by French architect Marcel Dourgnon, the museum is one of the largest in the region. As of March 2019, it is open to the public. In 2020, it is set to be replaced by the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza. The tour concludes with a drop-off at your hotel in Cairo or Giza.
- Gizeh Plateau - The Giza Plateau is a limestone plateau in Giza, Egypt, home to the Fourth Dynasty Giza pyramid complex, which includes the pyramids of Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, the Great Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers’ village, and an industrial complex. It forms the northernmost section of the 16,000 ha Pyramid Fields on the Western Desert edge of the Nile Valley, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Memphis and its Necropolis.
The plateau is elevated approximately 60 meters above sea level.
