Blue Fire Trek worth doing private - all inclusive! - The personal attention and customization by our driver and guide Risma made our trip! Our updated info didn’t get relayed to him, however as soon as we were able to contact him, he was attentive and listened to what we were (and weren’t) interested in doing. It was raining when we arrived at Ulun Danu Bratan Temple and he offered us an umbrella. He suggested Banyumala Waterfall might be slick, but since we wanted to go, he escorted us more than half way down to make sure we were alright. The Chocolate Factory was delicious and had clean bathrooms, and despite all the driving and busy itinerary, he never rushed us. We got onto the ferry and into the home stay later than ideal for sleeping, but he made sure we still got dinner and checked in. Ijen Crater lived up to the hype, and our local guide Eddie kept an eye on us. It was great being able to hike at our fastest pace as a small party of 2 unlike some of the much larger groups. It allowed us to get to the Blue Fire and still back up in time for the sunrise at the rim. Heading home could’ve been all driving, but Risma suggested a stop at Tanah Lot Temple which allowed us time to stretch our legs and a relaxing coastal breeze.

Absolutely Stunning and Incredible Experience! - Absolutely amazing experience! You will get your own guide for your party. He’ll pick you up from your hotel and stay with you until he brings you back the next day. Our guide Rei was awesome. You will stop at several stunningly beautiful places along the way. Our guide spoke English pretty well and explained things throughout the trip. Bali people are extremely nice and most know English well enough to communicate with you. The home stay was really wonderful. The host had an authentic Indonesian meal for us when we arrived. The room was very nice with two beds and a shower. You’ll get just enough rest to make the hike. The hike is pretty challenging and I am an Ironman triathlete. You need to be in good physical shape. It’s very steep and rocky. If you have bad knees, back or ankles I don’t recommend. There are some amazing Bali people who will help you up or down with a rickshaw wagon (Lamborghini:) for a fee. Hiking boots definitely helped. A hiking stick, a light jacket, pants or leggings, water, and a few snacks I recommend. The blue fire itself is pretty awesome. It’s an amazing experience and so glad we did this!

Tough journey but it was worth it - Both the driver, Rei, and guide, Supri, were great. It was a long journey to get there but it was worth it. The stops on the way helped to break it up a bit and we slept in the car on the way back. The home stay was okay. I would recommend wearing walking boots and bringing tissues and hand sanitiser with you. The treck was amazing and timed perfectly with sunrise. I would highly recommend.

Great Hiking Experience - Our driver Gusti and our guide Rudi did an excellent job. Gusti was very organized and engaging leading up to the trip, and made the drive very comfortable. Rudi showed us all the best spots along the hike, and helped us to take amazing pictures. It's not the easiest hike, but so having a great guide helped!

Very much recommended - Unforgettable trip! The car trip went very smooth, and the home stay was ok but with excellent food and a beautiful garden:) The drive up to the volcano and the hike up in the middle of the night was fantastic. The local guide was very good. The blue fire was cool but the workers and the volcano itself is very much worth the trip in itself. Would recommend to everyone if you want an adventure;)

Amazing Adventure - Our driver/coordinator and local guide at Ijen were wonderful and we had a very smooth trip to and up Mt Ijen. Despite going in the rainy season, there were still crowds of people, so if you are fit enough, aim to summit quickly. It will give you more time to witness the blue fire with less jostling from other people. Bring shoes with good grip and sufficient cushion to keep your feet comfy. The trail into the crater is very steep and very rocky. And you do it in the dark. Our guide was amazing. One of our party is a very beginner hiker and she would not have made it down with his help. Thank you, Gusti and Rudi for an unforgettable adventure!

One of my most memorable experiences - This was brilliant. Incredible views on Mt. Ijen and an unreal experience overall. The whole process was always smooth. No admin as Rio had taken care of everything. Transport to and from Bali, ferry ride, overnight stay, breakfast and dinner and tour guide on Mt. Ijen. Gusti, who was our personal guide throughout the tour, was brilliant. Patient and so helpful. I would definitely recommend them. I know I'll be using them again if and when I go back to Bali.

Nothing else like it - Right from the start, the mountain itself is incredible and well worth a visit on its own. It can be a challenging climb in parts so be ready for that, but otherwise just spectacular in terms of the scenery. Our guide was also fantastic, he took some amazing photos for us and was able to tell us so much about the mountain and the surrounding area. The homesite we stayed at was also lovely, and our hosts spoiled us with excellent local food. The sights on day 1 were nothing to complain about either, with a lakeside mountain temple and the twin lakes on our itinerary. All of this was facilitated by our driver, who was a pleasure to spend the time with and really made sure we were looked after from start to finish. The only possible downsides would be if you struggle with a lot of driving and/or long days, as this really is 2 full days on the go, and the ferry can really slow things down.
