Savoring Sustainability: A Wine & Brewery Tour in Margaret River
Eager to explore the renowned wineries of Margaret River in an eco-conscious manner, I embarked on a tour that promised small groups and a focus on quality. Join me as I recount a day filled with exceptional wines, local flavors, and a commitment to sustainability.
A Journey Through Margaret River’s Sustainable Vineyards
As a passionate advocate for sustainable travel, I was thrilled to embark on the Margaret River Wine & Brewery Tour and explore the renowned wineries of the Margaret River region. This was my first visit to this celebrated area, and I was eager to experience its offerings in an eco-conscious manner. The tour promised small groups and a focus on quality over quantity, which aligned perfectly with my values.
Our day began with a convenient pickup from our accommodation in Busselton. The small group size of just seven people in a nine-seater van ensured an intimate and personalized experience. Our guide, Rachel, was new to the company, and while her information flow wasn’t as polished as it could have been, her enthusiasm and dedication were evident. The focus of the day was on the wine, the beer, and the beautiful landscapes we traversed.
Discovering the Art of Winemaking
Our first stop was the Jilyara Winery, where we were greeted by Maria, the passionate owner. Her enthusiasm for her craft was infectious, and it was clear that she poured her heart and soul into every bottle. The wines were exquisite, and I was particularly impressed by the winery’s commitment to sustainability and conservation. It was a reminder of the importance of supporting businesses that prioritize the environment.
Next, we visited Fermoy Estate, where we were given the opportunity to choose from a menu of twenty-one wines. This personalized tasting experience allowed me to focus on the reds, while my husband explored the sparkling and rosé options. The 2019 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was a standout, and while it was one of the pricier options, it was worth every penny. The young lady at Thompson Estate was knowledgeable, but the wines didn’t quite resonate with us. However, the experience was still valuable, as it highlighted the diversity of the region’s offerings.
A Taste of Local Flavors
The lunch stop at Beerfarm was a delightful change of pace. Set amidst 160 acres of natural countryside, the brewery’s rustic charm and commitment to quality were evident. As a beer enthusiast, I appreciated the opportunity to sample a tasting paddle of four beers, each with its unique flavor profile. The food was hearty and satisfying, providing the perfect complement to the brews.
Our final stop was a visit to a local chocolate factory, where we indulged in artisanal chocolates crafted from the finest ingredients. It was a sweet ending to a day filled with exceptional flavors and experiences.
Reflecting on the day, I was grateful for the opportunity to explore the Margaret River region in a way that aligned with my values. The tour was a testament to the fact that sustainable travel can be both enjoyable and enriching, offering a deeper connection to the places we visit and the people we meet. I left with a renewed appreciation for the region’s commitment to quality and conservation, and I look forward to sharing more eco-friendly travel experiences with you in the future.
