While platypus can be spotted at any time, the optimal viewing is just after sunrise.

Guests are picked up from their Byron Bay accommodation and transported to a designated platypus area. From there, a 90-minute leisurely walk along the creek begins, focused on spotting platypus.

The guide will lead at a relaxed pace, pointing out key features and sharing fascinating information about this beloved and unique Australian creature.

Typically, one or two platypus are seen, along with numerous birds and occasionally koalas. After observing the platypus enjoy their breakfast, guests can unwind with a picnic by the creek before heading back to Byron Bay.

While platypus sightings cannot be guaranteed, rest assured that if none are seen, guests are invited to return on another day at no extra cost.

See platypus in their natural habitat. It is possible to see platypus at any time of the day, but our best chance is just after dawn.

We pick you up from your Byron Bay accommodation and drive to the special platypus area. From there we start our 2 km easy walk along the creek looking for platypus.

We usually see one or two platypus, and loads of birds. After watching the platypus have their breakfast we relax with ours – a picnic by the creek – before returning to Byron Bay.

We can’t guarantee platypus sightings on this tour, but don’t worry. If we don’t see them we take you on another day, free.
