Lovely experience - It was a really good experience overall. Peter and Mimi from Destinations NWT went out of the way to make us feel comfortable. Two of our five member family are vegetarian so they had some special yummy food arrangements for them. The fish they served the rest was really delicious too. Unfortunately, although we felt the tug of the fish taking the bait a couple of times, we didn’t catch any fish but that’s nature. Can’t really blame them for that though. The other family who were there in the tent next door caught a big one. We will definitely recommend Destinations NWT to our friends and others.

Fishing experience - Although I couldn't catch any fish, I was able to enjoy fishing while having fun talking with the people I met! And if I get another chance, I want to do it.

NOT for experienced anglers - get a local expert instead. - If you are an angler looking for a great NWT ice fishing charter, this is NOT for you. The guides are not locals and have no experience fishing. Half of our equipment was broken, nobody caught anything, and I lost a fish due to a poorly tied knot by the “guide” (I should have re-tied the knot when the guide told me he just started fishing this year). This 2 hour experience is good if you have no fishing experience and you want to dip your toes into the world of ice fishing. For any angler who wants to experience the true Yellowknife fishing, go with a local charter from a real fishing company (not a tour company) and book a 1/2 or full day trip. We rebooked with a local expert and caught 9 pike - largest was 30”.
