Abu Simbel Temples
The two temples of Ramses II and Queen Nefertari were carved from the mountain on the west bank of the Nile between 1274 and 1244 B.C. The Great Temple was dedicated to Ramses II, Ra-Harakhty, Amun Ra, and Ptah, featuring four colossal statues. The second temple was dedicated to Queen Nefertari and Goddess Hathor. The temples were dismantled and rebuilt on higher ground, marking a significant achievement by UNESCO.
Visits in Aswan include the Temple of Philae and a felucca tour around Elephantine, the High Dam, and the Unfinished Obelisk.
Aswan - Philae Temple
Built to honor the goddess Isis, this was the last temple constructed in the classical Egyptian style. Construction began around 690 BC, and it was one of the last places where the goddess was worshipped.
Aswan High Dam - The High Dam
The Aswan High Dam is a rock-fill dam located at the northern border between Egypt and Sudan. Fed by the River Nile, the reservoir forms Lake Nasser. Construction began in 1960 and was completed in 1968, with its official inauguration in 1971.
The Unfinished Obelisk
Aswan was the source of ancient Egypt’s finest granite, used for statues and temple embellishments. The large unfinished obelisk in the Northern Quarries offers valuable insights into monument creation, though the full process remains unclear. Three sides of the nearly 42m long shaft were completed, except for the inscriptions. At 1168 tonnes, the completed obelisk would have been the heaviest stone piece ever fashioned by the Egyptians.

Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahari - The Temple of Hatshepsut
The Temple of Hatshepsut is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved temples in Ancient Egypt, located in Luxor. Built on three levels with two wide ramps joining the levels, the temple rises from the desert plain in terraces, merging with the limestone cliffs of the Theban Mountain, as if nature itself constructed this extraordinary monument.
Colossi of Memnon - Colossi of Memnon
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of King Amenhotep III, the only remains of a complete mortuary temple. Made from quartzite sandstone blocks transported 700 KM from Cairo to Luxor, the statues, known as the Colossi of Memnon, rise about 18 M from the plain. They are remnants of what was once the largest complex on the west bank, built by Amenhotep III. Around noon, lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Luxor, followed by a visit to the Temple of Karnak, the largest ancient religious site known worldwide.
Temple of Karnak - Karnak Temple
Karnak Temple is the largest ancient religious site globally, and no site in Egypt is more impressive. Pompey’s Pillar - Pompey Pillar
Despite its name, Pompey’s Pillar has no connection to Pompey. The name refers to the possible burial site of the Roman general, who fled to Egypt and was assassinated after losing a major battle in Greece against Caesar. The red granite column likely honors Emperor Diocletian. Standing 25 meters high, it is the tallest ancient monument in Alexandria.
Alexandria - The Citadel Of Sultan Qeitbay
Built in the 15th century by Mamlouk Sultan Qeitbay to guard against Crusaders, this Islamic monument was constructed using ruins from the old Lighthouse built by Ptolemy II in the 3rd century B.C. Known for its fresh air and sweeping views of Cairo, it is now a preserved historic site of mosques and museums, including the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha.
Designed by Turkish architect Yousif Boushnaq, who came to Cairo from Istanbul to build this great structure, the mosque’s alabaster design contrasts beautifully with the sandstone city.
