GIZA PYRAMIDS, MEMPHIS CITY, AND SAKKARA PYRAMID DAY TOUR
Pyramids of Giza - Begin with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo or Giza by a tour guide for a full-day tour of the Giza Pyramids. The Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx are among the world’s most renowned tourist attractions, having been so even during Roman times. These magnificent structures served as the final resting places for kings of the 4th Dynasty (c.2613–2494 BC). The Great Pyramid of Giza was constructed for King Khufu (c.2589–2566 BC), with the other two built for Khafre and Menkaure, his son and grandson. Khufu’s pyramid is the oldest and largest, and it remained the tallest structure for 3,800 years!
While the three pyramids dominate the landscape, they are surrounded by numerous other monuments. Each king’s pyramid was part of a larger complex that included smaller queens’ pyramids and a symbolic tomb for the king.
Saqqara (Sakkara) Pyramids - Next, travel to Saqqara, located 40 km southwest of Cairo. Saqqara is a significant cemetery of Memphis, one of ancient Egypt’s most important cities. The site is named after Sokar, the god of this necropolis.
Saqqara is an open-air museum showcasing ancient Egyptian history. Kings and noblemen from the first two dynasties (c.3040–2686 BC) were buried here, including the Step Pyramid of Djoser (c.2686–2667 BC).
The pyramids of notable kings from the Old Kingdom’s Fifth (c.2494–2345 BC) and Sixth (c.2345–2181 BC) Dynasties are found in Saqqara. The pyramid of Unas (c.2375–2345 BC) features the oldest pyramid burial chamber adorned with texts, known as the Pyramid Texts, intended to protect the deceased king on his journey to the afterlife.
Ras Al Khaimah - Memphis, or Men-nefer, was the ancient capital of Inebu-hedj, the first nome of Lower Egypt, known as mḥw (“North”). Its ruins are near the modern village of Mit Rahina, in Badrashin, Giza, Egypt. The name likely derives from the late Ancient Egyptian name for Memphis, mjt-rhnt, meaning “Road of the Ram-Headed Sphinxes.”
Along with the pyramid fields extending over 30 kilometers (19 miles) on its west, including the famous Pyramids of Giza, they are part of the World Heritage Site Memphis and its Necropolis. The site is open to the public as an open-air museum.
According to legends recounted by Manetho, a priest and historian from the Ptolemaic Kingdom during the Hellenistic period, the city was founded by King Menes.
At the end of the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel.
DAY TOUR TO ISLAMIC AND CHRISTIAN CAIRO
Coptic Cairo - Begin with a pickup from your hotel in Cairo by a tour guide to start a full-day tour of Old Cairo, known as Christian Coptic Cairo. This area is among the most significant locations visited by the Holy Family, where their spiritual presence is still felt. Coptic Cairo is part of Old Cairo, encompassing the Babylon Fortress, the Coptic Museum, the Hanging Church, the Greek Church of St. George, and many other Coptic churches and historical sites. Christian tradition holds that the Holy Family visited this area and stayed at the site of Saints Sergius and Bacchus Church (Abu Serga). Coptic Cairo was a stronghold for Christianity in Egypt before and during the Islamic era, with most churches built after the Muslim conquest of Egypt in the 7th century.
