Giza Pyramid Complex:
This site features three main pyramids, six smaller pyramids, the Great Sphinx, and the Valley Temple. The complex dates back to the 4th dynasty, around 2400 B.C.
The Great Pyramid:
As the oldest and largest of the three pyramids on the Giza plateau, it is the only one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World still intact. Standing at 147 meters tall, it was constructed with 2,300,000 stones over twenty years.
Duration: 2 hours
Great Sphinx - This is the largest statue in the world, measuring 73 meters in length, 19 meters in width, and 20 meters in height. It is the oldest known monumental sculpture.
Duration: 1 hour
The Valley Temple:
This granite mortuary temple was used by the Ancient Egyptians for mummification and is the only one remaining on the Giza plateau.
Lunch will be provided en route.
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities - Home to a rare collection of over 250,000 genuine artifacts dating back 5,000 years, including a special exhibit dedicated to Tutankhamen. This collection of treasures, gold, and jewelry was buried in his tomb for over 3,500 years before its discovery in 1920.
Then, transfer to the 5-star Steigenberger Pyramids hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 2 - Cairo to Alexandria
Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa - Begin your private tour to Alexandria from Cairo at 7:00 am with a pickup from your hotel by an Egyptologist. Travel by private A/C vehicle to Alexandria, located 220 km northwest of Cairo. Arrive in Alexandria around 10 am to start your tour by visiting the Roman Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa.
The Catacombs Kom el Shoqafa:
Archaeologists believe these catacombs were initiated in the 2nd century A.D. and used for burials over the next 200 years. This period in Alexandria’s history was marked by a rich blend of cultures, alongside the ancient history of the great Egyptian kingdoms.
Pompey’s Pillar - Despite its name, it has no connection to Pompey. The name refers to the possible burial site of the Roman general who fled to Egypt and was assassinated after losing a major battle in Greece against Caesar. The red granite column was likely erected to honor Emperor Diocletian. It stands 25 meters high and is the tallest ancient monument in Alexandria.
Alexandria - The Citadel of Sultan Qeitbay:
Built in the 15th century by Mamlouk Sultan Qeitbay to protect the city from Crusaders, this impressive Islamic monument was constructed using the ruins of the old Lighthouse built by Ptolemy II in the 3rd century B.C. The Lighthouse was damaged during an earthquake in 1303 A.D. during the reign of Mamlouk King Qeitbay.
Bibliotheca Alexandrina - Enjoy lunch at an Egyptian restaurant in Alexandria.
The new Library of Alexandria:
Reopened in October 2002, the library aims to reclaim the legacy of its ancient predecessor. It is not only a stunning architectural marvel but also a vast complex where arts, history, philosophy, and science converge. Its diverse activities foster open discussion, dialogue, and understanding.
Meals: Breakfast at the hotel and lunch during the trip.
Drive back to Cairo for an overnight stay.
Day 3 - Old Cairo to Marsa Alam
Mosque of Muhammad Ali - Begin your day with a pickup from your Cairo or Giza hotel at 8:00 am with your Egyptologist guide. Head to the Saladin Citadel, built by Salah al-Din on the Moqattam Hills in 1183 AD as a defense against Crusader armies. Known for its fresh air and panoramic views of Cairo, it is now a preserved historic site featuring mosques and museums, including the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha. Designed by Turkish architect Yousif Boushnaq, who traveled from Istanbul to Cairo to construct this magnificent building, the mosque’s alabaster structure beautifully contrasts with the sandstone city.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Old Cairo.
Hanging Church (El Muallaqa, Sitt Mariam, St Mary) - Visit Old Cairo to see major attractions such as the Hanging Church, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, the Church of St. Barbara, and the Church of Abu Serga, one of Cairo’s oldest Coptic churches.
