Pyramids of Giza - The Giza pyramid complex, also known as the Giza necropolis, is a remarkable site in Egypt featuring the Great Pyramid, the Pyramid of Khafre, and the Pyramid of Menkaure, along with their respective pyramid complexes and the iconic Great Sphinx. These magnificent structures were constructed during the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of ancient Egypt, around 2600 to 2500 BC. The area also includes several temples, cemeteries, and remnants of a workers’ village.

Great Pyramid of Cheops (Khufu) - Khufu’s pyramid complex includes a valley temple, which is currently buried beneath the village of Nazlet el-Samman. Although diabase paving and nummulitic limestone walls have been discovered, the site remains unexcavated. The valley temple was originally linked to a causeway, which was mostly destroyed during the village’s construction.

Khafre’s Pyramid - Khafre’s pyramid complex features a valley temple, the Sphinx temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple is notable for yielding several statues of Khafre, some of which were discovered in a well in the temple’s floor by Mariette in 1860.

Menkaure Pyramid - Menkaure’s pyramid complex comprises a valley temple, a causeway, a mortuary temple, and the king’s pyramid. The valley temple once housed several statues of Menkaure. During the 5th Dynasty, a smaller ante-temple was added to the valley temple.
