- Egyptian Museum - The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, often referred to as the Egyptian Museum (Arabic: المتحف المصري, romanized: al-Matḥaf al-Miṣrī, Egyptian Arabic: el-Matḥaf el-Maṣri [elˈmætħæf elˈmɑsˤɾi]) (also known as the Cairo Museum), is situated in Cairo, Egypt, and boasts the world’s largest collection of Egyptian antiquities. It features over 120,000 items, with a significant portion on display. Located in Tahrir Square in a building constructed in 1901, it stands as the largest museum in Africa. Among its treasures is Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s collection, including the iconic gold burial mask, which is widely regarded as one of the most famous artworks globally and a prominent symbol of ancient Egypt.
- قلعة صلاح الدين الأيوبي - The Citadel of Cairo or Citadel of Saladin (Arabic: قلعة صلاح الدين, romanized: Qalaʿat Salāḥ ad-Dīn) is a medieval Islamic-era fortress in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further enhanced by later Egyptian rulers. It served as the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years, from the 13th century until the construction of Abdeen Palace in the 19th century. Its strategic location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near central Cairo offers a commanding view of the city and dominates its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects. Today, it is a preserved historic site, featuring mosques and museums.
In addition to the initial Ayyubid-era construction initiated by Saladin in 1176, the Citadel saw significant development during the subsequent Mamluk Sultanate.
- Mosque of Muhammad Ali - The Muhammad Ali Mosque or Alabaster Mosque (Arabic: مسجد محمد علي) is located within the Citadel of Cairo in Egypt and was commissioned by Muhammad Ali Pasha between 1830 and 1848.
Perched atop the citadel, this Ottoman mosque, the largest constructed in the first half of the 19th century, is distinguished by its animated silhouette and twin minarets, making it the most prominent mosque in Cairo.
The mosque was built in memory of Tusun Pasha, Muhammad Ali’s youngest son, who passed away in 1816.
This mosque, along with the nearby Cairo Citadel, is one of Cairo’s notable landmarks and tourist attractions.
- Khan Al-Khalili - Khan el-Khalili (Arabic: خان الخليلي) is a renowned bazaar and souq (or souk) located in the historic heart of Cairo, Egypt. Established as a trade center during the Mamluk era and named after one of its several historic caravanserais, the bazaar district has become a major attraction for both tourists and Egyptians. It is also home to numerous Egyptian artisans and workshops producing traditional crafts and souvenirs. Historically, the name Khan el-Khalili referred to a single building in the area; today, it encompasses the entire shopping district.
