An absolute must! - Wow, what an incredible museum! We booked our tickets in advance through the official website, though a word of caution: I accidentally booked foreign national tickets for the English guided tour. Thankfully, the staff were extremely helpful and simply charged the difference at the desk, making the process easy and stress-free.
We booked the museum’s guided tour, and I am so glad we did. Our two-hour tour with Mark was the best guided experience we’ve ever had. Engaging, evidence-driven, and full of fascinating history, he wove us seamlessly through the key artifacts while bringing the stories to life. If you’re lucky enough to get Mark as your guide, your tour will be unforgettable.
The exhibits themselves are vast and beautifully curated. To see such an extraordinary collection gathered in one place is truly awe-inspiring. The museum also offers plenty of food and beverage options. We stopped at Ratios for coffee and pastries — tasty, good value, and a nice break during our visit.
I’d read online that water bottles and backpacks weren’t allowed, but this didn’t seem to be the case. I’d recommend bringing water with you, though there’s also a small market inside where you can purchase it if needed.
Overall, the GEM is a must-visit. Between the breathtaking exhibits, excellent facilities, and outstanding guided tours, it’s an experience that will stay with you long after you leave.

Incredible museum - The Grand Egyptian Museum definitely lives up to it's name it is huge and incredible. Being able to see all the artifacts over thousands of years of history was truly special. The highlight of course was the Tutankhamun collection with the iconic death mask it was unbelievable to see in person. We did the museum by ourselves got there by taxi from our hotel in Cairo which cost about £4 and the entry tickets prebooked online were £22 each.

Powerful and stunning museum - Fantastic museum with all the history of civilization that carries us in time, being charming all pieces of history, habits and landmarks of humanity. In highlight the iconic piece, the original tomb mask of Tutankhamun which is a treasure of ancient Egypt (c. 1323 BC), discovered by Howard Carter in 1922 in the tomb KV62, in the Valley of the Kings. Made with about 11 kg of solid gold, lazuli pencil and precious stones. It is impossible to visit Cairo without visiting this magnificent museum. There are emotions in this museum that cannot be described, feel yourself in the place. Not to lose!!!

A very nice experience - We had a very nice day at the Grand Egyptian Museum. Everything was well organized and at a comfortable pace, which we really appreciated.
Madonna was very kind and helpful, and we truly enjoyed our time with her. She took good care of us and made sure we were comfortable throughout the visit. The explanations were simple, clear, and easy to follow.
It was a calm and enjoyable experience for both of us, and we’re very glad we joined this tour. Thank you for a lovely day.

A must in the land of pharaohs - Lots of people, but what riches in this museum dedicated to Egyptology. The Treasury of Tutankhamun alone justifies his visit, but the collections and the perspective are excellent. The architecture of the building is splendid, every detail recalling the pyramidal figure. Very successful

Unmissable! plan 2 days visit - This museum can look like a gigantic airport lobby with a luxury shopping gallery and many restaurants...
Its many statues welcome you during the climb of the steps...
2 days are enough to quietly visit the 12 galleries with the must-see gallery
All Ankhamon that is a wonder!
Take the time to observe the thousands of artifacts!
You will be surprised to see all that they have invented everyday objects...
The many statues and tombs are superb.
Wait for groups with guides to liberate the area, they only spend 3 hours of visits.... sometimes you have to play elbows in the middle of the very many visitors...
The boat museum is also worth exploring...

Good tour- amazing museum - We used this company more than 15 years ago during a 2 day cruise stop in Alexandria and the tour and guide was above outstanding. Highly recommended and we have referred several friends to them when they visited Egypt and they all had a good experience. This time we only stopped over in Cairo for 2 days coming from another trip and this time we arranged and prepaid for one day at the Grand Egyptian museum with hotel pick up and lunch and second day going to Saqqara with lunch. The company was prompt in responding to customize what we wanted to do and the day before the tour we received a message from our guide confirming the pick up time. He was punctual and the driver was friendly with an older vehicle that wasn’t in the best shape but it was clean. The museum visit was great and our guide took us to the highlights and made sure we had enough time to see everything that we wanted. At the end of the museum visit, he was not aware that lunch was included so I’m not sure if it was not communicated to him from the company or not. After I messaged the company and he spoke to them, we went to a nice restaurant that is for tour groups and had a nice buffet lunch. The guide seemed put out and upset that I had messaged the company so not much was said after lunch on the way back to the hotel. About 10 minutes from the hotel the guide was dropped and driver brought us back to the hotel so the guide could get transportation home. We have never had that happen before on any tour. It also happened the second day. The second day we received a message from the guide saying they would be 15 min late because the driver overslept. They arrived 15 min late and the vehicle was not in the best shape and was dirty inside with even footprints in mud on the back of drivers seat and windows were dirty and I couldn’t take photos through the window. Different car and driver from the first day. Driver was pleasant and once we dropped the guide off the second day the driver pointed out some landmarks to us that the guide didn’t. The visit to saqqara and serapheum was amazing and the guide provided a lot of information and assistance. We stopped at the same restaurant for lunch since it seems restaurants with higher standards are few and far between other than at hotels. Highly recommend the Saqqara visit but be advised there are not any toilets or toilet stops except for a few port-a-potties at serapheum. We thoroughly enjoyed both tours. The museum is a must see. When not viewing the sites, the guide didn’t tell unless we asked a question and he was sometimes difficult to understand. A few times it seemed he did not understand our questions so I never repeated. He did look after us very well. I would recommend the company but be sure to have your itinerary and inclusions printed out and with you to go over with the guide at the start of your tour. It’s the little things such as lack of communication about lunch and conditions of vehicles and being late that kept me from giving an excellent rating. A suggestion to the company is to have a print out of the itinerary for the guide to go over everything at the start of the tour. That is what was done years ago. A lot more attention to detail many years ago and seemed a little more professional.

fabulous museum but needs some fine tuning to make it a really great experience - fabulous museum. you cannot arrive earlier than your ticket opening time and waiting outside is annoying. no shade and no cafe or place to sit or giftshop. Inside the signage is poor - follow the crowds to find King Tut. This is the full display of everything from the tomb and is really impressive. I wished the room had a mezzanine so you could see the artifacts from above too. The boat room is better designed to view from above. would be good to see some pop up shops for a coffee or ice cream in other locations with small seating options. It would be good to have a separate book shop. The food options are varied and good and all in the ground floor food area.
