- Mosque of Muhammad Ali - Visitors are welcome to enter working mosques, but should dress modestly in long, loose clothing that covers arms and legs, and wear shoes that are easy to remove. Women should also bring a scarf to cover their hair. Please be aware that some sites close to the public at 5pm. Begin your tour of historic Cairo, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, by exploring the Citadel, constructed by Saladin, the founder of the Ayubbid dynasty.
- Al-Nasser Mohammed Ibn Kalawoun - With only 2-5 hours for this tour, most sites will be admired from the outside. Choose 3 to 4 monuments to visit or ask your guide for suggestions. From the citadel, you can view the Mosque of Sultan Hassan, the Refaie Mosque, the Giza pyramids (weather permitting), the Ibn Tulun Mosque (the oldest mosque in the city still in its original form and the largest in Cairo by land area), and the renowned Cairo Tower.
- Mosque and Madrasa of Sultan Hassan - Take a moment to appreciate the grandeur of the Sultan Hassan & Refaie religious archaeological complex, constructed in the mid-fourteenth century.
- Mosque of Ibn Tulun - Wander through the Alabaster Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, Cairo’s most well-preserved and iconic mosque, to the al-Nasir Muhammad Mamluk Mosque. Delight in the historic religious and military architecture as you admire the monuments within this magnificent fortress.
- Al-Rifa’i Mosque - Conclude your tour with a visit to some of Cairo’s more famous mosques: the Mosque of Abu Dahab (known as the Father of Gold, an affluent Ottoman army leader who famously distributed gold to the poor as charity, earning his nickname), and the 10th-century al-Azhar Mosque, home to one of the oldest surviving Islamic universities in the world.
- Mosque of Amr Ibn Al-As - The final stop is the vibrant downtown area, where you may wish to enjoy lunch or a non-alcoholic beverage at one of the renowned restaurants and cafes in this lively Cairo City Center, often referred to as the Paris along the Nile.
- Cairo Citadel - The Citadel of Cairo, or Citadel of Saladin, is a medieval Islamic-era fortification in Cairo, Egypt, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and further developed by subsequent Egyptian rulers. It served as the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years, from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo offers a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was one of the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its era. It is now a preserved historic site, featuring mosques and museums.
