It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for nearly 700 years from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory of the Mokattam hills near the center of Cairo commands a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. It is now a preserved historic site, including mosques and museums.

Excellent experience - The tour was great. They picked us up from the hotel and the tour took about 3 hours. The guide, Hoda, was very helpful and courteous. She explained everything and answered our questions. She spoke English well and clearly. She also gave us suggestions on other places to visit and resturants for authentic food. She was just great! The driver, Muhammad, was also great. I would definitely recommend this for others.

Nice trip to the citadel - Good way to spend a few hours, the citadel and the mosques inside are impressive. Mario is an excellent and informative guide. We finished early as we made good time, so he offered to keep exploring the area since we still had time left; definitely very helpful.

Best trip to Alexandria. VIP experience - We used Twitter Egypt Travel for many trips. On of the was a day trip to Alexandria. It was my husband dream to visit the city of Cleopatra and Alexander the great. 2 Marios accompanied us to our trip: Mario our driver and Mario our tour guide. It was a custom trip based on our site preferences. We visited the catacombs, the library of Alexandria and the Citadel. We stopped to have a nice lunch in a seafood restaurant on the Mediterranean sea. It was a great day. Mario x 2 did a fantastic job and were very reliable and ensured we had a great time. Thank you Mario and Mario for an unforgettable day. Mary & Stephane from Canada.

Excellent - Great tour of Citadel and old Cairo by Mario and Kyro behind the wheel.
Got picked up on time at hotel and first went toy he Egyptian Civilization museum where Mario gave a very detailed explanation of the acient Egypt.
Then we went to Citaled where he showed me the on-site mosque and the tumb of Mohammed Ali along with his amhaiotry, very detailed which is expected from a very professional tour guide
