Temple of Amun, Fatnis Island, Camp Khaled, and Hot Springs
Temple of the Oracle of Amun / Aghurmi - The first destination in Siwa is the Temple of Amun. Known as the Oracle Temple or the Temple of Amun-Ra, this site was a prominent religious center in the ancient Egyptian city of Siwa Oasis. Dedicated to Amun, a major deity in the Egyptian pantheon, the temple held significant religious and cultural importance in ancient times.
Lake Siwa - Don’t forget your swimwear! The next stop is the hot springs. Siwa has gained fame for its highly saline bodies of water, especially after salt mining began. Despite its remote location, 560km from the capital, Siwa remains largely untouched. The lakes are notable for their hyper-salinity, with nearly 95 percent salt content. These salt lakes are renowned for their therapeutic benefits, making Siwa a popular destination for medical tourism. In 2017, it was recognized as a global medical and environmental tourism site, particularly beneficial for skin conditions, eye and sinus ailments, and rheumatism.
Fatnis Island (Fantasy Island) - Known as ‘Fantasy Island’ for its picturesque setting, this small oasis pool is 13 km from Siwa City. Surrounded by palm groves and lush greenery, the island features date farms and a freshwater spring perfect for swimming.
Salt Lakes, Cleopatra’s Springs, Tughgheen Island
Siwa - Explore the enchanting beauty of Siwa’s Salt Lakes on a guided tour. Marvel at the surreal landscapes of shimmering salt flats, where vast white expanses create a unique panorama. Experience the peacefulness of these natural wonders and capture breathtaking photos against this ethereal backdrop. Join us for an unforgettable journey through one of Egypt’s most captivating destinations.
Cleopatra’s Pool - Spring of Juba - With a constant temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, Ain Juba or Cleopatra’s Spring is a popular attraction near Siwa Oasis. While some legends claim Cleopatra swam here, historians often dispute this, asserting the spring’s ancient origins unrelated to the famous queen. Known as the Fountain of the Sun by Herodotus, legend suggests Alexander the Great discovered the spring following birds in the desert during his Persian conquest. Today, the spring offers a refreshing dip for weary travelers.
Mountain of the Dead, Shali Fortress, Safari Trip in the Great Sand Sea, Sunset
Mountain of the Dead - Depart from the hotel at 9 am to visit the Mountain of the Dead. Siwa Oasis hosts one of the most significant burial sites from Dynasty 26, containing thousands of graves carved into the bedrock. Inscriptions have helped date the oldest graves, with burials continuing until the late Roman era, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Antiquities.
Shali Fortress - In central Siwa, the ruins of the 13th-century Shali Fortress stand. Built from a material called kerchief (a mix of salt rocks and clay), it was constructed to protect inhabitants from Bedouin attacks. A heavy rain in 1936 caused the fortress to begin crumbling.
Visitors will find the entrance to a mosque, the only original building of the renovated Shali, along with unique handicraft and fabric shops offering distinctive souvenirs from this region.
Great Sand Sea - The Great Sand Sea is the world’s second-largest continuous sand-covered area, following Algeria’s Grand Erg Oriental. This vast sand mass originates from wind-excavated depressions along the Mediterranean coast from Jalo (Libya) to Egypt’s Qattara depression. Known as the Great Sand Sea in Egypt, it continues as the Calanascio Sand Sea in Libya and the Rebiana Sand Sea, the southern extension west of Kufra.
