Qoricocha - Huchuy Qosqo - Cusco
Huchuy Qosco - This name translates to “Little Cusco” in Quechua and is located at an elevation of 3,650 meters (11,800 feet), above the 3,000-meter high town of Lamay and the Sacred Valley. The site was named in the 20th century, previously known as Kakya Qawani. According to Pedro de Cieza de León in his “Second Chronicle of Peru,” the palaces were constructed by Viracocha, the Eighth Inca. Among the numerous structures, some made of stone and others of adobe, is a kallanka (great hall) that is 40 meters long. An impressive Inca-built irrigation channel, lined with stones for approximately 800 meters, supplies water to the site. The site is not accessible by public road.
