Upon arrival at the archaeological site with your group, your guide will explain the history and significance of the intricate carvings that adorn the 12th-century temple complex. With the tour limited to 15 people, there will be ample opportunity to ask questions.
After a break for lunch (at your own expense), you’ll explore the Angkor Wat temples and then head to the labyrinthine Ta Prohm temple—featured in Tomb Raider—and learn more fascinating history about the site, including Angkor Wat, Ta Prohm, Takeo, Bayon, and Phnom Bakheng Hill for sunset.
Your tour concludes with a drop-off back at your Siem Reap hotel.
- Angkor Wat - The first stop on our tour is Angkor Wat, where you’ll spend about 2 hours and 50 minutes exploring inside the temple. Angkor Wat is an architectural masterpiece and the largest religious monument in the world, covering an area four times the size of Vatican City. It was constructed by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the first half of the 12th century, around the years 1110-1150, making Angkor Wat nearly 900 years old.
- Angkor Thom South Gate - The second stop involves a brief 20-minute walk to capture photos of the giant army statues and Buddha statues at the City Gate, dating back to the 12th century, with carved faces and stone figures lining a causeway.
- Bayon Temple - The third stop is at Bayon Temple, a richly decorated Khmer temple associated with Buddhism at Angkor in Cambodia. Built in the late 12th or early 13th century as the state temple of King Jayavarman VII, the Bayon stands at the center of Jayavarman’s capital, Angkor Thom.
- Ta Prohm - The fourth stop is at Ta Prohm, the modern name of the temple in Siem Reap, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 13th centuries and originally called Rajavihara.
- Phnom Bakheng - Before heading to this mountain hill for sunset, there might be a break for lunch and some rest at the hilltop. Phnom Bakheng is a Hindu and Buddhist temple in the form of a temple mountain in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia. Dedicated to Shiva, it was built at the end of the 9th century during the reign of King Yasovarman.
