A Day of Cultural Immersion and Elephant Encounters

When I first heard about the Kulen Elephant Forest & Kampong Phluk Tour, I knew it was something I had to experience. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the visit to the Kulen Elephant Forest. As an animal lover, I was thrilled to meet the three rescued elephants who call this sanctuary home. The experience was intimate and heartwarming. We prepared fruits and rice balls for the elephants, fed them, and even joined them for a mud bath and river bath. It was a hands-on experience that allowed us to connect with these gentle giants in a meaningful way.

The sanctuary is a testament to the care and respect these animals deserve. Watching them roam freely and interact with visitors was a joy. It was one of those “core memory” moments that I’ll cherish forever. The entry fee might seem steep, but knowing it supports the well-being of these magnificent creatures makes it worth every penny.

Sunset Serenity and Street Food Delights

After the sanctuary, we headed to Kampong Phluk for a private boat cruise. The village, with its stilted houses and floating markets, offered a glimpse into local life that was both fascinating and humbling. As the sun began to set, we had the option to watch it from a crowded bar platform or from our boat. We chose the latter, and it was the perfect decision.

A local lady paddled up to our boat, offering beers, soft drinks, and snacks, adding a charming touch to the experience. The sunset over the water was breathtaking, a serene end to an adventurous day. On our way back, Sam and Van went above and beyond to satisfy our craving for street food. They found us the best roasted duck and crispy pork, rounding off the day with a delicious feast.
