• Stowe - Is there a more charming ski mountain town in the US?

It offers excellent skiing and facilities on Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak, but it’s the picturesque town center and friendly locals that provide a unique escape from city life for most visitors.

Surprisingly, Stowe’s busiest season is summer, when visitors come for activities like hiking, golf, rock climbing, biking, and ziplining.

Stowe is also a top spot for the stunning Fall foliage, attracting leaf peepers from around the globe to enjoy the vibrant colors.

• Smugglers Notch - What is a notch? It depends on where you’re from. It’s the lowest point in a mountain range. In the South, it’s called a gap; in the West, it’s a pass.

Smugglers Notch is the route between the Green Mountains and Sterling Range. It was used to transport goods, livestock, liquor, and even slaves escaping to Canada.

Smugglers Notch is a scenic and enjoyable part of our drive, following RT108 between Stowe and Jeffersonville, the northern endpoint (or start point) of our tour route.

• Trapp Family Lodge - Yes, the same family from the iconic Sound of Music movie settled in the United States, fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria in 1939.

After touring the country, they bought an old farm in Stowe, later renamed Trapp Family Lodge.

Now, it offers extensive accommodations, dining, and a brewery onsite.

• Warren Covered Bridge - Vermont holds the record for the greatest number of authentic covered bridges per capita in the country.

We’ll see several of these protected bridges on our drive along RT 100. Some favorites are in Warren, Waitsfield, and Jeffersonville, which is at the northern end of our drive and actually located on RT108.

• Cold Hollow Cider Mill - Few things are as quintessentially Vermont as a cup of hot apple cider on a cold day. When fermented, apple cider is also a delicious alternative to beer and wine. Even better, cider makes a fantastic flavor for donuts.

We recommend stopping at the Cold Hollow Cider Mill to try all these treats!

• Cabot Creamery Store - Waterbury - Vermont is renowned for its dairy products and fresh produce.

At the Cabot Farmer’s Store, you can sample classic Vermont cheeses, chocolates, and other delicacies. There’s also a selection of hard ciders and wines from the region.

• Ben & Jerry’s - Undoubtedly, the most popular spot on this foodie highway is the world-famous ice cream factory.

With over 55 flavors, choosing might be the hardest decision of your entire vacation. (Chocolate Chunky Monkey is a favorite).

Don’t miss the flavors that have been “retired” in the flavor graveyard!

• The Vermont Country Store Weston - This is the quintessential Vermont-style country store along our drive.

Most travelers stop in to find souvenirs, tasty treats to sample, and quality woolen and outerwear. There are many more items than we can list here.

Located in the Village of Weston, it’s a must-stop.

• Calvin Coolidge Homestead - This modest farmhouse, home to President Calvin Coolidge, reflects his values: honesty, frugality, and reserved self-restraint.

It offers a welcome change from a period of scandals and instability. Explore this National Historic Landmark to learn how this native Vermonter restored public trust in the government!
