- Montezuma Castle National Monument - Montezuma Castle is situated about 90 feet (27 m) up a sheer limestone cliff, facing the adjacent Beaver Creek, which drains into the perennial Verde River just north of Camp Verde. It is one of the best-preserved cliff dwellings in North America, in part because of its ideal placement in a natural alcove that protects it from exposure to the elements. The precariousness of the dwelling’s location and its immense scale - almost 4,000 square feet (370 m2) of floor space across five stories - suggest that the Sinagua were daring builders and skilled engineers. Access into the structure was most likely permitted by a series of portable ladders, which made it difficult for enemy tribes to penetrate the natural defense of the vertical barrier.

Archeological Genius of Native Americans - We put our Lara Croft adventurism on and went to explore the surrounding areas of interest in the Sedona area.
There is much to see and places to explore and visit. Try getting it all in and enjoy it all.
Immerse yourself in the Native American history and culture that is still very much alive and felt.
Montezumas Castle National Monument. Just to see this place and learn of its history was worth the 20 minute drive or so.
Walk along the quiet pathway and lookup to see this immense architectural masterpiece of Native culture that will just awe you.
The sun just lit it up with morning light, giving it a sense of the heightened spiritual connection with its past.
Here you can feel that "Sedona feeling" people often associate with this area. The sense of peace, uplifted energy- that connection.
It is a short walk and view. It houses some artifacts and gives an historical account of this Castle in the NP Office/shop.
A must see Castle on you Sedona area adventures.

Great way to tour Montezuma - Great experience and lots of knowledge about the area from our guide Bob. Comfortable ride and went at our pace. Recommended places for our later touring as well! Highly recommend

A great tour and guide! - My friend and I went on a private tour of Montezuma's Castle and the Tuzigoot National Monument. We went through TripAdvisor, which booked our tour with First Class Charters and Guide Miguel Montoya. We booked a private tour because we are seniors, and I have an issue walking. These sites are very easy walking as both have maintained trails or paved walkways. It was a rainy day, but that provided a beautiful sky in contrast to all the red rocks, and we managed to dodge most of the raindrops! Miguel was an exceptional guide. Great knowledge of the history of all the areas we visited. He also provided us with a wonderful ride around Sedona when we opted not to go to the Well because of the rain. He also plays the flute and he can sing, having recorded many songs he has written. It was a lovely experience to have him play several songs of his while we were riding around. I would highly recommend Miguel.

Marc is great! - Marc was so good at explaining the history and structure of the ruins and gave us a luxury experience like no other. Thoroughly enjoyable, very educational and very fun!

Heritage Site Tour - Miguel was our guide and he was really good. We enjoyed the heritage sites and he was very cognizant of the heat and trying to mitigate it. He was sensitive to my wife’s bad knee and was willing to change the venue to another but that one was closed so he went back to Montezuma's well which he thought would be more rigorous but it turned out ok.
He is very knowledgeable about the local history and the various sites. He has many years of experience. He is always reading and studying deeper into the history of these sites.
At the sites he played his two types of flutes.
We enjoyed the adventure very much.

Bob rocks! - Our tour guide Bob was amazing and had so much information! We would even ask him questions, and he had the answer to all of them. He was funny and a joy to be around. To see the montezuma castles & tuzigoot was a experience I’ll never forget!

A Castle to remember - This was an awesome tour. Our guide, Bob, made the tour exceptional. His knowledge and presentations made the tour, the most memorable tour we have ever taken. It covered two site, the Tuzigoot National Monument and Montezuma's Castle. The tour of Tuzigoot allowed for a close of look at the architecture of small settlements. Giving us the opportunity to have an understanding of how the Sinaqua would build for survival, daily living and protection. This was followed by visiting the second site Montezuma's Castle. The one thing that was out of everyone's control was not being able to see inside the Castle. Unfortunately, only archaeologist have been able to physically be in the structure since 1951. It is still an amazing site to see.
