- 10 - The group gathers at the Jasper office, conveniently located downtown at 635 Connaught Drive (the big grey C-can). After collecting gear and receiving a briefing for the day, transportation is provided to the climbing site, which is a 20-minute drive from town.
Upon arrival, the guide will offer basic instruction on the equipment, starting with learning how to safely lower down the cliff using ropes. Once at the base, the instructor will teach simple yet effective techniques for using the equipment to secure each other on the wall, known as belaying.
The guide will set up the rope systems, allowing participants to climb various routes that range from “easy” to “challenging.” Safety is a priority, and the guide will offer coaching as participants tackle the challenge in a stunning location by the Athabasca River.
This adventure includes a brief 10-minute hike to the climbing site. While all fitness levels are welcome, a basic level of fitness is recommended to comfortably hike a short distance and attempt standing on toes on a limestone wall. If fatigue sets in while on the wall, it’s perfectly fine to lower down, take a break, and try again.
