- Notre Dame Auxiliatrice - Initially, the driver will arrive for the hotel pick-up and proceed to visit the Red Roof Church at Cap Malheureux.
The Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Chapel is one of the most famous churches in Mauritius, known for its striking red roof set against the vibrant turquoise sea and clear blue sky.
The Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Church is renowned for its charming red roof, drawing many intrigued visitors and providing a scenic backdrop for memorable photos. Established in 1938, this modest chapel is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It is perfectly located at the northernmost point of Mauritius, offering stunning views of the five northern islets, including Coin de Mire (Gunner’s Quoin).
- Mont Choisy Beach - Situated in the northwest of Mauritius, Mont Choisy Beach is among the most popular beaches on the island. It beautifully balances the sparkling water and the pale sand. Adorned with Casuarina trees, Mont Choisy Beach attracts both locals and tourists. It is not only one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius but also the longest, providing comfort for everyone. With expansive, shaded areas under the Casuarina trees, family picnics are a great idea. Its clear and warm water makes it perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and diving.
- L’Aventure Du Sucre - Next, head to Aventure du Sucre to explore the history of Mauritius’ sugar industry through ‘the trail of the Sugar’ and visit the sugar museum.
The Sugar Museum is where you can explore the country’s history through key events depicted by artifacts and significant sites on the sugar trail.
Mauritius’ rich cultural and historical heritage is closely tied to its sugar industry. The second part of the museum reveals the secrets of how the island’s renowned sugars are produced.
By following the Sugar Adventure trail with over 250 years of history, you can trace the history of the entire country. The tour of the old sugar mill, now a modern museum, lasts about 1.5 hours. At the end of the tour, delightful sugar and rum tastings await visitors.
- Pamplemousses - After the visit, head to a local restaurant to enjoy a 3-course Mauritian lunch. You will have options, and the chef will explain and inquire about your preferred choice.
- Le Caudan Waterfront - Then drive to the capital, Port Louis, to explore the Caudan Waterfront, a shopping and leisure hub located on the waterfront. The craft market, in particular, is bustling with activity and a wonderful atmosphere where you are sure to find many souvenirs for the family back home.
- Central Market - Another must-visit is the Port Louis central market – a fun place to explore and the perfect spot to find many locally made products, textiles, Mauritian spices, fruits, and numerous souvenirs at very affordable prices. In your free time, you can wander the city streets and see several sightseeing attractions.
Shopping will surely work up an appetite! Head to the next section of the Central Market where all the street food stalls are located. You will have a wide variety of choices here for street food and will surely find something to your liking. It is recommended to try the dhall puri, made with split chickpea and flour, and the famous alouda, similar to a milkshake with basil seeds, grated jelly, and sometimes a scoop of ice. If you wish to sample some local snacks, you will find a large selection of samoussas (fritters filled with potatoes), bajas (fritters made with chickpea flour), or gato piment (fritters made with yellow split pea and chili).
- Port Louis - Finally, the driver will take you to enjoy a visit to Port Louis, the capital of Mauritius. Port Louis is the largest city and the economic and administrative center of the island. Just off the main square, you can stroll beside the palm-lined Place d’Armes. You can admire some wonderful French colonial buildings, especially the Government House and the Municipal Theater.
- Citadelle (Fort Adelaide) - Then drive to Fort Adelaide (also known as La Citadelle), strategically built on higher grounds of Port Louis at 240 feet above sea level. Construction of Fort Adelaide began in 1832 and was completed after nearly ten years. Fort Adelaide offers vast panoramic views of Port Louis and its harbor. The British constructed this fortress fearing a civil war from the remaining French settlers on the island and to guard the harbor against enemy attacks. A ride uphill to Fort Adelaide guarantees breathtaking views of Port Louis and the surrounding mountain range.
