An Unforgettable African Culinary Adventure in Cape Town Awaits! - If you’re seeking a magical escape from the usual tourist trails, look no further! My daughter and I recently embarked on a remarkable journey in Cape Town that stirred our hearts and tantalized our taste buds. This was not just a culinary tour; it was an immersive storytelling experience that celebrated the rich tapestry of African culture. From the moment we met Dennis, our extraordinary guide, we knew we were in for something special. His passion and meticulous attention to detail made every moment enriching. With each stop at vibrant food vendors, we were treated to not only delicious authentic dishes but also the fascinating stories behind them. We savored flavors from Somalia, indulged in Malay/Creole specialties, experienced the South African "seven colors," and traveled through the tastes of Mali and Senegal. To top it all off, we enjoyed delightful local chocolate and artisanal ice cream, crowning our day with sweet memories.

Pan African food feast - I was lucky to have Aviwe as my guide. He was kind, patient and generous with his considerable knowledge of the food, history and culture of Cape Town. He took me to restaurants owned by women that I would never ever have found on my own which are hidden with no signs. He even helped me with a personal errand.Highly recommended!

Brilliant tour with informative and engaging guides - Brilliant tour with informative and engaging guides. Fez, Shihaam and team were knowledgeable, warm and welcoming. Great vibe and buzz, with great company from around the world. Superb number of stops with a good range of cuisines sampled, to allow us to taste the cuisines of countries such as Somalia and Mali. Group not too big and enough guides to help everyone feel catered to. Come hungry; you'll leave full! Would recommend!

An instructive and enjoyable walk through the city center, with an eye for the history and legacy of Apartheid - I really enjoyed seeing a part of the city that I never would have understood without this tour. I most enjoyed hearing about how the people behind Unexplored Cape Town are helping to incubate businesses of South Africans who have been left out of the tourism industry currently

A Cape Town must-do experience - This tour was probably the highlight of our 4 days in Cape Town. What a wonderful mix of history, culture, and food. Every one of us two adults, my son (age 10) and my daughter (age 13) all loved the experience and the food. In fact, the next day we went back to one of the restaurants we visited (on the request of the kids) because we enjoyed it so much. This is a must do experience for anyone visiting Cape Town.

Absolutely outstanding - This was the best thing we did on our trip to South Africa and I can’t recommend it enough. Our two guides Shihaam and Lonwabo were so outstanding and knowledgeable. The places we visited the people we met, the food we ate and the experiences we had were something we had never experienced before. So so grateful for the opportunity and worth every cent. It was a very special tour. You have to do this.

Awesome food tour with Nadia and Shihaam - We loved our food tour with Nadia and Shihaam! They were both very knowledgeable and professional. We appreciated Nadia’s warmth and local insights when interacting with everyone and Shihaam’s understanding of South African culture/ food scene. Our favorite part was having Senegal coffee. The food choices were out of the ordinary but very fitting and quite delicious. We highly recommend this tour.

The TOUR GUIDE & TOUR EXPERIENCE were FIVE STARS... BUT... - The Positive & Delightful: As I Mentioned I Do Not Believe I Could Have Asked For A More Engaging, Intelligent, And All Around Delightful Tour Guide As Fez; So Fez And The Active Tour We Went On Was Absolutely *****Five Stars.***** And We Truly Did Experience Some Little Known, Local Eateries And Individuals Along The Way. For These Reasons The Tour Was Delightful. Less Than Delightful: Although The Description Of Where The Tour Starts, " Church Square (City Centre) – By The Statue Of Jan Hendrick Hofmeyr Across From Mcdonald’s, At The Intersection Of Parliament And Spin Street. In Front Of Labotessa Hotel" Sounds Highly Detailed And Therefore Easy To Find, They Really Should Mention That The Entrance To Labotessa Hotel Is Also Totally Hidden Behind Foliage And I Do Not Recollect Even Being Able To See The Sign For The Hotel. So Advice To Future Travelers: Either Arrive Early So You Can Hunt It Down, Or Heed This Advice: !!! It's Simply The Follage Hidden Building Next To The Other Foliage Hidden Building (On The Corner, Where You Can Read The Sign For "Ramen Head" Restaurant). They Are Both Located In Church Square, At The Back Of It Away From The Main Street. !!!The True Disappointing Element(S) As Part Of The Promised Tour Package!!!: From The Beginning As Well As Throughout The Tour I Was Assured That There Would Be A Follow Up Email Sent With Links And Information To The Highlights Of The Places/ Information That We Experienced And To Other Relevent Information, Which I Was Very Appreciative To Hear, So I Did Not Take Any Notes Which I Would Have Absolutely Done, Had I Not Been Assured That I Would Be Receiving This Promised Follow Up Email With All This Wonderful Information. I Have Not Received Any Follow Up Communication After The Completion Of The Tour, Which Although Wonderful At The Time Of The Tour, Now Feels Like A Near Total Loss (Experientially As Well As Monetarily For Such An Impressively Expensive Tour). ** At This Point I Don't Care By Who Or From Where This Promised (As A Standard Part Of The Tour Experience) Follow Up Email Complete With Information Experienced And Provided During The Tour, As Well As Follow Up Links And Additional Information Relevant To The Tours Content Itself Comes From. !!! I Just Want And Expect To Receive It Immediately, While I Still Have A Little Bit Of Time During My Holiday To Actually Make It Of Use !!! I Have Already Been Waiting Several Days To Receive This Email, Which Reflects Very Very Poorly On This Tours Organization And Standards. !!!!! Warning!!!!! : The Tour Itself Is Delightful, And The Tour Guides Are Spectacular. And As Far As The Local Cost Of Things And Local Wages, I Promise You This Tour Is An Insulting Rip Off, As The Food Samples That You Are Provided (Which Are Lovely) I Absolutely Promise You The Cost Which The Company Pays The Hard Working Venders On Your Behalf As A Tour Participant Is  Next To Nothing By American/ European Standards (Having Lived And Worked In Both Areas), And Which You Pay (By Local Standards) An Insulting And Astronomical Cost (And Even By "Western" Standards Is Not What I Would Call An Inexpensive Tour). And Knowing That The National Minimum Wage (Nmw) Is R28.79 ($1.72 Usd / €1.47 Euro) Per Hour (2025), And That Most Newer Tour Guides (Who Are Hired By Tour Companies And Who Are Not Independent Tour Guides Themselves (Who Could Set Their Own Prices To Charge, And Thus Receive The Profits Of Their Labors) Are Reported To Receive Pay Wages Closer To The National Minimum Wage (Per Hour), Which Translates To The Tour Company Taking Advantage Of Local Vendors And Up And Coming Tour Guides Who Are Still Dependant On Tour Companies To Make A Name For Themselves And Establish A Client Base) Are Keeping The Vast Majority Of The Money That You Are Paying For The Tour, And That The People Who Actually Work To Make The Tour Possible Receive Very Little In Compensation. Advice For Those Seeking A Conscientious As Well As Non-Exploitive "Capetown Food & History Tour": Visit "Withlocals.Com" And Look Into Their "The 10 Tastings Of Capetown" Tour. The Philosophy And Mission Statement Of The Company Is Much More Aligned With The Interest Of The Tour Guides Who You Will Be Interfacing With, The Tour Itself Can Be Personalized Via Easy Communication With Your Tour Guide, And On Top Of That You Pay Way Less For The Experience ( For 4 Persons: €53.38/ Each, For 2 Persons: €74.96/ Each, And The Price Per Person Becomes Incrementally Lower Until The Tour Maxes Out At 8 People. ) *** Regardless Of Tour Size, For The Tour I Am Reviewing Here You Will Pay $110 Per Person.
