Travelers journey along the N1 freeway until reaching Stellenbosch, a renowned wine region near Cape Town, located on the right side of the freeway. Stellenbosch is home to numerous vineyards stretching to the Stellenbosch hills.

On the left side of the freeway lies Paarl, another of the top three wine regions near Cape Town. Visitors should look out for Paarl Rock, one of the two largest single rock outcrops in the world, the other being Uluru Rock in Australia. Also visible from the freeway in Paarl is the Afrikaans Language Monument.

The route continues under the nearly 4 km long Huguenot Tunnel, constructed by Italians. This tunnel leads to a stunning valley encircled by dramatic mountains. These mountains, known as the Du Toitskloof Mountains, separate Paarl from Worcester. After this scenic valley, travelers arrive in Worcester, another charming wine region approximately 120 km from Cape Town. This area is known for producing wine and high-quality peaches, primarily for the domestic market.

Beyond Worcester, the drive takes travelers through De Doorns and Hex Valley, both surrounded by jagged mountains on either side of the freeway. Hex Valley is renowned for producing top export-quality grapes and is adjacent to Little Karoo. The Karoo is a semi-desert natural region of South Africa, characterized by its topography, geology, climate, low rainfall, and clear skies.

Aquila Safari is located here, nearly 190 km from Cape Town, offering a scenic 2-hour drive. Travelers are dropped off at this game reserve and enjoy up to 5 hours of breakfast, safari, and lunch.
