Hout Bay - Departing from Cape Town, the first fishing village encountered is Hout Bay, perched on the ocean’s edge. It is flanked by the Table Mountain range, which at one end narrows into a road leading to the affluent mountainside suburb of Constantia, and at the other, opens onto the half-moon shaped bay with the scenic Chapman’s Peak road between mountain and sea.

The place gets its name from the huge and ancient granite boulders along the coast. This picturesque area is home to a colony of about 3000 delightful African Penguins. A boardwalk runs from Foxy Beach to Boulders Beach, where visitors can get down on the sand and mingle with the penguins, but should not be tempted to pet them as they have sharp beaks that can cause serious injuries.
