Bo-Kaap - Formerly known as the Malay Quarter, Bo-Kaap is a UNESCO-protected heritage site. Known for its vibrant houses and cobblestone streets, the area is home to descendants of slaves brought to Cape Town by the Dutch in the late 1600s. The community is predominantly Muslim, celebrating the rich history of Islam in the Southern Hemisphere. Within Bo-Kaap, visitors can find the Auwal Mosque, the oldest mosque in South Africa, among many others. The colorful houses symbolize a true rainbow nation, as envisioned by Nelson Mandela, with many stories behind their hues. The first stop will be here, where visitors can enjoy a koeksister, samosa, or explore art galleries, spice shops, and capture photos of the vibrant houses and mosques before moving to the next destination.
-
Maidens’ Cove - Following Bo-Kaap, the tour continues past Cape Town Stadium in Green Point, where a semi-final match was held during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The journey proceeds past South Africa’s oldest lighthouse in Mouille Point, through Sea Point, Bantry Bay, and Clifton, known for its luxurious properties, before reaching the second stop at Maidens’ Cove. Here, visitors can admire Camps Bay Beach and the Twelve Apostles mountains behind Table Mountain. The tour then continues through Camps Bay, Llandudno, and other upscale beach towns along the Atlantic Seaboard en route to Hout Bay, a quaint fishing town on the way to Chapman’s Peak.
-
Hout Bay Lookout - Hout Bay is a charming fishing town in Cape Town, South Africa. The tour stops here for two main reasons:
- A small market offers handcrafted souvenirs, where visitors can enjoy bargaining with locals for keepsakes to take home.
- An optional 50-minute trip to Seal Island departs from this harbor, home to over 3,000 seals. Boats frequently take visitors to appreciate Cape Town’s marine life. Although optional, this activity is highly recommended. Visitors are responsible for their own boat tickets.
- Capture photos of fishing boats and private yachts against the backdrop of the Constantiaberg Mountains, and use the facilities before heading to Chapman’s Peak viewpoint.
-
Chapman’s Peak Drive - Chapman’s Peak is a scenic drive between Hout Bay and Noordhoek, west of Cape Town. This stunning route showcases South Africa’s engineering prowess in road construction, spanning nine kilometers and taking seven years to complete (1915-1922). The tour will traverse this impressive road, stopping at the peak to enjoy the breathtaking views of the bay before continuing to Noordhoek Long Beach for a quick photo opportunity, then proceeding to the ostrich farm.
-
Cape Point Ostrich Farm - This brief stop allows visitors to encounter ostriches and explore the shop to discover the uses of ostrich products.
#Did you know that ostrich leather is the second strongest leather in the world? This makes ostrich leather products exceptionally durable and special.
Visitors can also see rehabilitated small animals at the rescue center located at the ostrich farm. -
Cape of Good Hope - The Cape of Good Hope is a significant geographical landmark at the southwestern tip of the African continent, marking the meeting point of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans. Bartholomew Dias named it the Cape of Storms due to the challenging winds his ships faced while navigating the spice route to India. The Cape of Good Hope features a symbolic sign where visitors line up to take photos, marking their visit. There is also a trail leading to the old lighthouse at Cape Point, taking approximately 1.5 hours (optional). At the Cape of Good Hope, it’s common to spot elands, baboons, and wild ostriches. Enjoy this historic site before heading to Cape Point.
-
Cape Point - Cape Point is the southernmost tip of the peninsula, standing 249 meters above sea level, and is one of the world’s highest cliffs. This stunning narrow strip of land is adorned with peninsula sandstone fynbos and picturesque bays, making it one of South Africa’s most attractive bays. Portuguese sailor Bartholomeu Dias was the first European to navigate this cape in 1488, naming it the “Cape of Storms” on his return journey. The King of Portugal later renamed the area “Good Hope.” The discovery of this route by explorers Dias and Vasco da Gama led to the establishment of the Cape Sea Route and increased use of the surrounding seas. Visitors can reach the higher pinnacle by foot or via the environmentally-friendly “Flying Dutchman” funicular, which operates from the parking lot below the new Cape Point lighthouse.
-
Boulders Beach Penguin Colony - The charming village of Simon’s Town, home to South Africa’s naval base, is a must-visit on the return journey to the city center. The main attraction here is the “Jackass” African penguin colony at Boulders Beach. Approximately 3,000 penguins have coexisted with human neighbors for many years on this family-friendly beach. Visitors can walk along the boardwalk from Boulders Beach to Foxy Beach for a complete experience. Boulders Beach and Seacliff Beach are perfect for swimming with penguins on a sunny summer day.
The quaint waterfront center in the heart of Simon’s Town is an ideal spot for lunch. Visitors can stop here to dine or browse art and craft outlets.
- Muizenberg Beach - With its warm waters and gentle waves, Muizenberg Beach is perfect for surfing. Several surf shops offer board and wetsuit rentals, allowing visitors to try standing on a board and riding the waves. The beach also features colorful changing houses that enhance its beauty. This will be the final stop on a full-day tour of the Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach. From here, the tour will take the highway through Constantia and Bishopscourt, arriving at the final destination.
