Constructed from 1915 to 1922, Chapman’s Peak is an 11 km route with 114 curves, and the peak stands 166 meters above sea level. The drive offers numerous picnic spots with excellent facilities and countless viewpoints. Each year, Southern Right Whales visit the Cape Point Route coastline, and “Chappies” is a prime location to observe these gentle giants from an elevated perspective.

• Cape Point - Many mistakenly believe Cape Point is where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meet, but the actual meeting point is at Cape Agulhas. The rugged rocks and towering cliffs, rising over 200 meters above the sea, create a stunning backdrop for the park’s rich biodiversity. Cape Point is part of the Southern section of Table Mountain National Park. The area’s natural vegetation, fynbos, is the smallest yet richest of the world’s six floral kingdoms. Visitors can take the Funicular (3 minutes each way) or walk from the parking lot to the Old Lighthouse. Hungry guests can enjoy a meal at Cape Point’s long-standing restaurant, which offers large sea-facing windows reminiscent of Mediterranean summers. A hike from Cape Point to the Cape of Good Hope, or vice versa, takes about 35 to 45 minutes each way.

• Boulders Beach Penguin Colony - Visit Boulders Beach, home to a growing colony of vulnerable African Penguins, also known as Jackass Penguins due to their distinctive donkey-like braying. They are the only penguins found on the continent, with colonies stretching from Southern Namibia around the Southern African coasts. The penguins first arrived in False Bay in 1983, and the colony quickly grew due to abundant food. However, commercial fishing and marine pollution have impacted the colony. In 1910, there were approximately one-and-a-half million penguins, but by 1982, only two breeding pairs remained. Thanks to incredible conservation efforts, the Boulders Colony has grown to over 3,500 birds in recent years. Visitors can walk with the penguins or use the wooden walkways to view them in their natural habitat up close.
